  17. ABOUT SYLINK
  18. ============

  20. SYLINK is a package to enable local communications between Psion
  21. computers and a host PC running DOS. This version offers:
  22.  
  23. ■  file transfer using Psion's protocol
  24. ■  file and directory management on the local and remote machine
  25. ■  screen handling facilities
  26. ■  server actions to control the remote device from the PC
  27. ■  client actions to allow the remote device to control the communications
  28. ■  command file control
  29. ■  ability to perform file functions from the DOS prompt
  30. ■  DOS errorlevel returns
  31. ■  format of remote devices
  32. ■  set the date and time on the remote device
  33.  
  34. Modem communications may be added at a later date. The software is designed
  35. to be easily translated into foreign languages should that be required.

  38. INSTALLATION

  41. The information is held in a zipped self extracting form.
  42. To unpack the files make a directory for SYLINK, copy the zipped file
  43. SY.EXE and type:

  47. To print the relevent information print the following files:

  55. The file HELP.TXT is a copy of the information displayed when HELP is typed.
  56.  
  57. SYLINK.EXE is the PC executable program and SY$SERV.IMG is the SYLINK
  58. server for the Psion computer.  these files should be in the same directory
  59. which may be accessed through the DOS path.

  61. INVOCATION
  62. ----------
  63. SYLINK can be invoked with commands from the command line, in interactive
  64. mode or by a batch file.  To start SYLINK type:
  65.  
  66. SYLINK [-<option>[ ...]] [@<cmdfile>[ ...]] [<command>[ : ...]]

  68. See the information in HELP.TXT for more details. By giving the command on
  69. the command line files may be copied to the remote device in a single line
  70. command from DOS.  Coupling this with DOSKEY can give a very efficient way
  71. to access Psion computers, e.g.
  72.  
  73. C:> DOSKEY sy=sylink -q $*
  74. sets up the DOSKEY macro.
  75.  
  76. C:> sy copy *.* rem::
  77. Copies all the files in the local directory to the default directory on the
  78. remote device.

  82. The file HELP.TXT contains information on all the commands and the use of
  83. SYLINK.

  87. This version of SYLINK is a shareware product and may be distributed over
  88. bulletin boards. If so, please supply the file SY.EXE.

  90. To use SYLINK in a commercial, educational or governmental agency
  91. or on more than one computer, it is necessary to purchase a LICENSE.

  95. OTHER PRODUCTS FOR PSION COMPUTERS

  97. B-TREE
  98. This offers fast, efficient access to ordered data on both PCs and Psion
  99. computers.  Ordered files may be created on the PC, then accessed and
  100. updated on the Psion computer through OPL or C.  The files may then be
  101. transferred back to the PC where the information can be extracted.

  104. LINK UTILITIES
  105. This allows MCLINK to be closed down at a given time and to be closed
  106. down from the Psion computer.  OPL extensions are also provided to invoke
  107. LINK and close it down correctly.

  110. STOCKMANAGER
  111. An off-the-shelf stock counting and stock management package for the
  112. Psion HC.  Stock locations and codes may be read by bar-code or keyed in
  113. and the information printed or sent to a PC locally or via modem.

  116. TRAKSYS
  117. A fully integrated stock tracking and managment system offering full
  118. traceability (for BS 5750), pallet control and hand held system.

  127. STWATCH
  128. This stopwatch and countdown timer is for use on the Psion Series 3. It has
  129. a large digital display and is accurate to about a tenth of a second.
  130. The stopwatch that can display up to 12 laps, can be paused and reset all at
  131. the touch of a single key. The countdown timer sounds the alarm when it
  132. expires.
  133. This is available as shareware with a license of £7.50.
