  53. 1. Summary
  54.   This  file contains all the necessary information to use  and
  55. install the DPBank bank accounts tracking program.
  56.  
  57. 2.  Foreword
  58.   For  those who never completely read the documentation files:
  59. just read the section 7 ``Installation'' and install the online
  60. help  file which you can delete later when you're used  to  the
  61. program.
  62.   If  you are upgrading from a previous version, I suggest  you
  63. read  the  file HISTORY.TXT for a list of changes. All  version
  64. 1.x files are compatible with this version so you don't need to
  65. change  anything. You do however need to need to copy  the  new
  66. application file as well as a language file and a help file  if
  67. you want help. See the ``Installation'' section for details.
  68.  
  69. 3.  Introduction
  70.   DPBank  is a program designed to help you keep track of  your
  71. bank accounts. The program is written in OPL and will only work
  72. on Psion Series 3a/3c palmtops.
  73.   It  lacks some of the bells and whistles of the ``big'' shots
  74. (like ``S3aBank'') but on the other hand, it offers rudimentary
  75. bank  account tracking possibilities to those using a  256/512k
  76. RAM  Psion  Series  3a  (and all others who  care  about  their
  77. precious little RAM ;-) .
  78.   The  objective of this program wasn't to try to compete  with
  79. such  ``monsters'', but give users with lesser needs an  easier
  80. to use and learn alternative.
  81.   If  you  need  more  than  a  (fairly)  simple  bank  account
  82. tracking program, I suggest you opt for S3aBank, otherwise take
  83. a look at section 6 for a list of available features.

  85. 4.  Distribution
  86.   DPBank  is distributed under the terms of shareware. You  can
  87. try  it freely during a test period of 30 days. After this test
  88. period,  if  you still like and/or use DPBank you  must  either
  89. register  it or delete all the files associated to DPBank  from
  90. your Psion. See the file ``REGISTER.TXT'' for more details.
  91.   The  program  can  be distributed freely  by  any  electronic
  92. means  (anonymous FTP sites, BBSes, packet radio ...)  provided
  93. the  file  ``DPBANKxx.ZIP'' (where the ``xx''  is  the  version
  94. number)  stays intact (see section 7 ``Installation''  for  the
  95. file's  contents). This gives you express right  to  distribute
  96. this program by whatever electronic mean.
  97.   Software  distributors can freely distribute this program  on
  98. their sharewaredisks, provided that:
  99.   .   You don't charge more than $5 for the service.
  100.   .   The file ``DPBANKxx.ZIP'' stays intact (see section
  101.       7``Installation'' for the file's contents).
  102.   .   You don't make any money out of it.
  103.   Steve  Litchfield has specific right to change the  ZIP  file
  104. contents to accomodate his disk's space needs.
  105.   If  you have any technical questions or comments of any  kind

  109. 5.  Uses
  110.   DPBank  is  one of the most useful programs on my  Psion  (of
  111. course, otherwise why would I have written it ;-). It helps  me
  112. keep  track of my bank accounts and I can now have an  overview
  113. of  my  bank situation at all times. I've added the possibility
  114. to  ``see''  into the future for all those who  use  a  lot  of
  115. standing  orders  (up to 90 days). I myself am  only  a  (poor)
  116. student  and I must admit that I don't have hundreds of monthly
  117. transactions on my accounts, so this option is not very  useful
  118. for me.

  120. 6.  Features
  121. .   Foreign currencies supported with exchange rates in either
  122.     local or foreign form

  125. .   Automatic transaction descriptions supported (avoids
  126.     unnecessary typing)

  131. .   ``Forecast'' possibility of up to 90 days
  132. .   Automatically deletes counter part of a deleted transfer
  133.     (unless it is already reconciled)

  135.     cheques)

  137. .   Programmed system conform, ie: interacts with the System
  138.     screen for file changes, exit...

  161. 7.  Installation
  162.   Here  is  a  table  showing you what files  are  in  the  ZIP
  163. archive and where to put them on your Psion:

  188. langs10.opo but not both!)

  190.   As  you  can  see, only the executable file and one  language
  191. file  is necessary for the program to run. These files  can  be
  192. placed  on  any  drive (A, Internal, or B) of  any  media  type
  193. (Internal  RAM, Stat RAM, or Flash) as the files  do  not  need
  194. modifying.
  195.   Here  are  the language codes used for the language and  help
  196. files:
  197. .   01: UK English
  198. .   02: French (available separately, look for the file
  199.         ``DPBxx_FR.ZIP'')
  200. .   03: German (available separately, look for the file
  201.         ``DPBxx_DE.ZIP'')
  202. .   08: Norwegian (available separately, look for the file
  203.         ``DPBxx_NO.ZIP'')
  204. .   10: US English (check instead of cheque)
  205.   If  (for  example) you own a UK Psion but want to use another
  206. language file, this is still possible by overiding your Psion's
  207. preference with the help of the LANGS.USR file (included in the
  208. different  locale  files but NOT in this  english  distribution
  209. file).  This file must be an ASCII file with only the  language
  210. number you want to use (from the above list) as the first  (and
  211. only) line of the file.
  212.   For  a  more  permanent  change of language  for  your  Psion
  213. (including  the  keyboard),  I  suggest  you  take  a  look  at
  214. Konstantin I. Saliy's excellent KbdMap program.
  215.   To  install  DPBank, simply copy the required files  to  your
  216. Psion or use the RCOM installation script. On you Psion, go  to
  217. the  system screen and choose the menu option ``Install''  from
  218. the  ``Apps''  list  (or just press Psion-i  for  a  shortcut).
  219. Choose  ``DPBank'' and that's it! You will then see the  DPBank
  220. icon I have drawn.
  221.   If  you  wish  to uninstall DPBank, you have  to  remove  the
  222. \DPBANK  directory the program created (as well  as  all  files
  223. inside  it) and \APP\DPBANK and finally the DPBANK.OPA file  in
  224. your \APP directory.
  225.  
  226. 8.  Memory requirements
  227.   DPBank  requires  about 60k of disk space  (storage  memory).
  228. When running, DPBank will need about 30k free (process memory).
  229. As  you  can  see, the program was really optimized for  people
  230. with small memory space. Of course, the counter part of this is
  231. that  you  lose  in speed. (Programmer's axiom ;-)  Although  I
  232. tried to make a suitable compromise between space and speed, if
  233. you  find DPBank too slow, contact me and I'll see what  I  can
  234. do.
  235.   It  may happen that you don't have this memory free if you're
  236. really  low  on  mem.  The program will warn  you  and  act  in
  237. consequence.  Versions  from 1.5 greatly  improved  the  memory
  238. checking  problem  and it should not happen that  DPBank  exits
  239. without warning you that your memory is too low.
  240.   Of  course,  if DPBank is running and then you  open  another
  241. application that requires a lot of memory, be sure to close  it
  242. again before coming back to DPBank otherwise it may happen that
  243. DPBank closes itself.
