- Greedy v1.1 FAQ
- ---------------
-
- - Q: I couldn't find the help that I usually get through the 'help'
- key!
- - A: Due to lack of time, I haven't been able to produce a Psion-style
- help facility. By the way, there's no real need for a help file. Just
- discover while playing... Or use this FAQ!
-
- - Q: Greedy tells me a file is missing!
- - A: Please read the docs to check what files are required and where
- to put them.
-
- - Q: Greedy takes ages to load. That's irritating!
- - A: Greedy offers a square board (480x480) on a 480x160 screen. This
- 480x480 screen could have been made of 3 480x160 pictures, but they
- would have taken up to 60k of memory. To avoid this, I'm building the board using
- block drawing. This saves memory. But it is time-consuming as a
- side-effect...
-
- - Q: I have to hit 'enter' after each player's action. Can I avoid
- this?
- - A: Hit 'menu' key, choose 'options' then change 'automatic moves' to
- 'yes'
-
- - Q: The sounds are much too loud as I'm playing in my office!
- - A: Don't play in your office! Or change the sound level in the
- options.
-
- - Q: Tokens move much too slowly!
- - A: Change 'game speed' in the options.
-
- - Q: I want to be able to quit a game anytime!
- - A: You can't. You'll have to wait until it's your turn to play to
- quit. Use Alt-X for a fast quit with automatic savegame.
-
- - Q: Can I switch back to Psion's system screen and launch another
- application without leaving my current game?
- - A: Yes. But Greedy gobbles up a lot of memory and you may experience
- memory shortage if you launch another application. Furthermore, Greedy
- does not check if it's been sent to the background, and will keep on
- running. This may slow down other applications.
-
- - Q: Your sounds are poor and I'd like to use mine instead!
- - A: You can choose a path for each sound that Greedy uses in the
- 'sounds' options.
-
- - Q: What's the difference between 'fast save' and 'save game'?
- - A: Greedy will do a 'fast save', which is actually a transparent
- save game feature, if you quit using Psion-X (or 'Exit Greedy (with fast
- save)' from the 'file' menu). You'll be offered the option to restore that
- game next time you start Greedy.
- 'save game' will allow you to store several games. This may be helpful
- if you're not the only one to play Greedy on your Psion. Or if you're
- willing to try different strategies...
-
- - Q: I've lost a game. I'm not offered that 'restore' option!
- - A: This is a feature. You've lost. Start another game!
-
- - Q: I've won! But I'm not offered that 'restore' option...
- - A: This is a feature!
-
- - Q: I'd like to cheat!
- - A: Next question, please.
-
- - Q: What are those 'savings'?
- - A: You can invest money to earn some interest. The only place where
- you can invest is the 'Starting point'. Each time you reach it, you'll be
- granted 11% interest. If you run short of money during the game,
- you'll be offered your 'savings' back, minus a 15% fee. But you can
- get your 'savings' back without that 15% fee when you reach 'Starting
- point'. It's up to you to decide how much money you need before
- leaving 'Starting point'.
-
- - Q: What's this 'Free place' all about? Sometimes there is some money
- available, sometimes not!
- - A: When a 15% fee is collected from a player by the Bank, it goes
- there. The next lucky player to land on it wins the whole amount.
-
- - Q: I'd like to purchase a market from another player. How can I do
- that?
- - A: Hit the diamond key (or Tab or 'V') before rolling dice. You'll
- be shown the 'properties' screen. Navigate using the 'up' and 'down' keys.
- Choose a market you'll willing to buy using 'enter' key. If player is ok for
- transaction, you'll have to make your bid using 'left' and 'right'
- keys, then 'enter'.
-
- - Q: The computer players usually refuse to sell after two rejected
- bids. What's happening?
- - A: Computer players are not patient. You'll have to wait for a while
- until they accept selling a particular market again...
-
- - Q: One of the computer players has become very rich and keeps trying
- to buy a market from me. But I'm not willing to sell, and I'd like him to
- stop asking me!
- - A: Choose 'options', then change 'proposals' to 'no'. He won't
- bother you anymore! Switch back to 'yes' to allow proposals again.
-
- - Q: Computer players keep winning!
- - A: Try again!
-
- - Q: Computer players keep losing!
- - A: You've found the right strategy!
-
- - Q: Computer players are luckier than I am!
- - A: No, they're not!
-
- - Q: English is not my mother tongue. Has Greedy been localized?
- - A: Not yet. But willing people are welcome. See the 'What's next'
- section in the docs for more info.
-
- - Q: Greedy is taking too much memory on my Psion. And I don't like
- it... How can I do a 'clean' removal?
- - A: Ok. First uninstall it (Psion-T). Then delete file 'greedy.opa'
- and the 'greedy' directory in your 'app' directory. Greedy has also created
- the files 'greedy.ini', 'greedyhs.ini' in your internal 'opd' directory. This
- directory may also hold files ending with '.gdy'. These are saved game
- files which you should delete as well...
-
- - Q: Do I have to pay for Greedy?
- - A: No. Greedy is free. You can send me a quick Email if you liked it
- (or didn't). Or vote for it in Steve Litchfield's survey!
-
- - Q: I'm willing to pay for Greedy...
- - A: You'd better donate something to someone who needs it! Homeless
- people, Aids or any other similar organizations. You unfortunately
- have the choice...
-
- - Q: I've found a bug!!
- - A: Please report it to me via Email or Snail mail, including as many
- details as possible...
-
- - Q: As far as I remember, Monopoly (tm) offered some extra features
- (mortgaging, more players, etc.) I couldn't find them in Greedy!
- - A: The real Monopoly (tm) has been ported to the Psion series, and
- should be available through your local dealer. Consider buying it!
