  4. - Q: I couldn't find the help that I usually get through the 'help'
  5. key!
  6. - A: Due to lack of time, I haven't been able to produce a Psion-style
  7. help facility. By the way, there's no real need for a help file. Just
  8. discover while playing... Or use this FAQ!

  10. - Q: Greedy tells me a file is missing!
  11. - A: Please read the docs to check what files are required and where
  12. to put them.
  13.  
  14. - Q: Greedy takes ages to load. That's irritating!
  15. - A: Greedy offers a square board (480x480) on a 480x160 screen. This
  16. 480x480 screen  could have been made of 3 480x160 pictures, but they
  17. would have taken up to 60k of memory. To avoid this, I'm building the board using
  18. block drawing. This saves memory. But it is time-consuming as a
  19. side-effect...

  21. - Q: I have to hit 'enter' after each player's action. Can I avoid
  22. this?
  23. - A: Hit 'menu' key, choose 'options' then change 'automatic moves' to
  24. 'yes'
  25.  
  26. - Q: The sounds are much too loud as I'm playing in my office!
  27. - A: Don't play in your office! Or change the sound level in the
  28. options.

  30. - Q: Tokens move much too slowly!
  31. - A: Change 'game speed' in the options.
  32.  
  33. - Q: I want to be able to quit a game anytime!
  34. - A: You can't. You'll have to wait until it's your turn to play to
  35. quit. Use Alt-X for a fast quit with automatic savegame.

  37. - Q: Can I switch back to Psion's system screen and launch another
  38. application without leaving my current game?
  39. - A: Yes. But Greedy gobbles up a lot of memory and you may experience
  40. memory shortage if you launch another application. Furthermore, Greedy
  41. does not check if it's been sent to the background, and will keep on
  42. running. This may slow down other applications.

  44. - Q: Your sounds are poor and I'd like to use mine instead!
  45. - A: You can choose a path for each sound that Greedy uses in the
  46. 'sounds' options.
  47.  
  48. - Q: What's the difference between 'fast save' and 'save game'?
  49. - A: Greedy will do a 'fast save', which is actually a transparent
  50. save game feature, if you quit using Psion-X (or 'Exit Greedy (with fast
  51. save)' from the 'file' menu). You'll be offered the option to restore that
  52. game next time you start Greedy.
  53. 'save game' will allow you to store several games. This may be helpful
  54. if you're not the only one to play Greedy on your Psion. Or if you're
  55. willing to try different strategies...

  57. - Q: I've lost a game. I'm not offered that 'restore' option!
  58. - A: This is a feature. You've lost. Start another game!
  59.  
  60. - Q: I've won! But I'm not offered that 'restore' option...
  61. - A: This is a feature!

  63. - Q: I'd like to cheat!
  64. - A: Next question, please.

  66. - Q: What are those 'savings'?
  67. - A: You can invest money to earn some interest. The only place where
  68. you can invest is the 'Starting point'. Each time you reach it, you'll be
  69. granted 11% interest. If you run short of money during the game,
  70. you'll be offered your 'savings' back, minus a 15% fee. But you can
  71. get your 'savings' back without that 15% fee when you reach 'Starting
  72. point'. It's up to you to decide how much money you need before
  73. leaving 'Starting point'.

  75. - Q: What's this 'Free place' all about? Sometimes there is some money
  76. available, sometimes not!
  77. - A: When a 15% fee is collected from a player by the Bank, it goes
  78. there. The next lucky player to land on it wins the whole amount.

  80. - Q: I'd like to purchase a market from another player. How can I do
  81. that?
  82. - A: Hit the diamond key (or Tab or 'V') before rolling dice. You'll
  83. be shown the 'properties' screen. Navigate using the 'up' and 'down' keys.
  84. Choose a market you'll willing to buy using 'enter' key. If player is ok for
  85. transaction, you'll have to make your bid using 'left' and 'right'
  86. keys, then 'enter'.

  88. - Q: The computer players usually refuse to sell after two rejected
  89. bids. What's happening?
  90. - A: Computer players are not patient. You'll have to wait for a while
  91. until they accept selling a particular market again...
  92.  
  93. - Q: One of the computer players has become very rich and keeps trying
  94. to buy a market from me. But I'm not willing to sell, and I'd like him to
  95. stop asking me!
  96. - A: Choose 'options', then change 'proposals' to 'no'. He won't
  97. bother you anymore! Switch back to 'yes' to allow proposals again.

  99. - Q: Computer players keep winning!
  100. - A: Try again!

  102. - Q: Computer players keep losing!
  103. - A: You've found the right strategy!

  105. - Q: Computer players are luckier than I am!
  106. - A: No, they're not!

  108. - Q: English is not my mother tongue. Has Greedy been localized?
  109. - A: Not yet. But willing people are welcome. See the 'What's next'
  110. section in the docs for more info.

  112. - Q: Greedy is taking too much memory on my Psion. And I don't like
  113. it... How can I do a 'clean' removal?
  114. - A: Ok. First uninstall it (Psion-T). Then delete file 'greedy.opa'
  115. and the 'greedy' directory in your 'app' directory. Greedy has also created
  116. the files 'greedy.ini', 'greedyhs.ini' in your internal 'opd' directory. This
  117. directory may also hold files ending with '.gdy'. These are saved game
  118. files which you should delete as well...

  120. - Q: Do I have to pay for Greedy?
  121. - A: No. Greedy is free. You can send me a quick Email if you liked it
  122. (or didn't). Or vote for it in Steve Litchfield's survey!

  124. - Q: I'm willing to pay for Greedy...
  125. - A: You'd better donate something to someone who needs it! Homeless
  126. people, Aids or any other similar organizations. You unfortunately
  127. have the choice...

  129. - Q: I've found a bug!!
  130. - A: Please report it to me via Email or Snail mail, including as many
  131. details as possible...

  133. - Q: As far as I remember, Monopoly (tm) offered some extra features
  134. (mortgaging, more players, etc.) I couldn't find them in Greedy!
  135. - A: The real Monopoly (tm) has been ported to the Psion series, and
  136. should be available through your local dealer. Consider buying it!
