  2. EXAB15.ZIP contains EXAB.MCR and README.TXT.

  4. DESCRIPTION
  5.  
  6. ExAb is a MacSys macro to EXtend ABbreviations.
  7.  
  8. It uses a self-created and self-maintained database
  9. of your abbreviations. By positioning the cursor at the 
  10. end of your abbreviation and hitting the hot key, ExAb 
  11. searches the database and, if found, extends the 
  12. abbreviation. If not found, ExAb enables you to add an 
  13. extension to the database.

  15. ExAb is freeware. You are free to use, modify and copy
  16. the macro. I've used ExAb on my English 1 Mb Psion 3a,
  17. where it performed flawlessly. However, needless to say,
  18. I don't give guarantees and you cannot hold me
  19. responsible in case anything goes wrong.

  22. INSTALLATION
  23.  
  24. Copy EXAB.MCR to directory \MACRO\MCR. Open Tom 
  25. Dolbilin's MACRO (MacSys), open EXAB.MCR (Psion-E) and
  26. translate it (Psion-T). After installation assign a
  27. convenient hot-key (I use <Psion-Enter>). Exab is now
  28. ready for use. After running for the first time, ExAb
  29. will create a database file (EXAB.DBF) with a number of
  30. help records. After typing 'exab' in lower case (ExAb is
  31. case-sensitive) and hitting the hot-key, several info
  32. messages will be extended onto the screen. Similarly,
  33. extending on 'help' will show ExAb information. 
  34. Actually, the help lines are written to the file from
  35. which you called ExAb, and you may want to delete them
  36. afterwards.

  39. NOTES
  40.  
  41. 1. ExAb does not work when its database is opened by
  42. another program (like DATA)!
  43. 2. Sometimes an error message occurs, like 
  44. "GetText$: Bring server has no data available...". 
  45. Just <Esc>, deselect your abbreviation and call ExAb
  46. again. If you find an easy solution for this, please
  47. inform me.
  48. 3. When you feel confident with ExAb, you may want to 
  49. delete the help lines from the database (EXAB.DBF) 
  50. and/or from the macro (EXAB.MCR). To remove these lines 
  51. from the macro file, open the file and delete the lines
  52. indicated. After translation the size of the macro will
  53. be reduced, which may speed it up.

  58. V.1.0 to 1.2. First crude versions for own use.

  60. V.1.3. This was the first version released to Tom 
  61. Dolbilin's homepage at http://www.livetext.com/macsys/.
  62. It makes use of a different database (EXABP.DBF) when
  63. using "PROGRAM", Psion's OPL editor, which is also used
  64. by MacSys. This simplifies writing OPL or macros. 
  65. E.g. fp = Fil2Pid%:( "" ). Also, EXABP.DBF is 
  66. automatically created after first use.

  68. V.1.4. Includes date and time stamping. After calling
  69. the macro behind .d or .t the current date or time is
  70. inserted (formats: 22 Dec 1996 and 10:22:45,
  71. respectively).

  73. V.1.5. Added whole text abbreviation extension and
  74. related on-line Help.
  75. Abbreviations to which the forward-slash character (/)
  76. is added can be extended in one go, after finishing the
  77. text. Therefore, type // at the beginning of the text
  78. (Ctrl-Psion-Up) followed by the hot-key. E.g. In the
  79. following text,

  81. //..txttxt.. sy/ ..txttxt.. br/ ..txttxt..

  83. positioning the cursor after // and hitting the hot-key
  84. will extend abbreviations 'sy' and 'br' and at the same
  85. time remove all "/" characters. At the end of the search
  86. enter "Continue" to MACRO's "GetText$..." message. When
  87. by accident upon this message "Stop" is entered, MACRO 
  88. should be exited and reopened before ExAb can be used 
  89. again (to enable the proper closure of ExAb's database).
  90. If you prefer a different character, exchange the / 
  91. character in the assignment of variable c$ in line 9 of
  92. EXAB.MCR for the character of your choice.
  93. If you upgrade from an earlier version, wish to keep
  94. your old definitions, and be able to consult ExAb v.1.5
  95. Help, proceed as follows. Use DATA to remove the old
  96. Help records from EXAB.DBF and rename EXAB.DBF to
  97. EXABOLD.DBF. Now upon ExAb's first use, a new EXAB.DBF
  98. will be created, containing the new Help records. Using
  99. DATA you can now merge in your definitions from
  100. EXABOLD.DBF.
