- Simpledb is a freeware database application for the PalmPilot which
- allows the user to create customized databases. Simpledb creates
- records with a heading and 5 fields and gives users the ability to add
- free-form notes to each record. The unregistered version only allows
- 5 records per database. For more information on Simpledb, please

- As with any beta software, please be aware that there may be
- significant bugs in this software which may cause loss of data on your
- Pilot. Be sure to HotSync frequently to protect your data.

- Creating a database:
-
- Once the application opens, you will need to select or create a database.
- To create a database, click on the new button. Enter the database name in dialog
- box and click ok. The 'Category Edit' screen will show, so edit the database
- field names as necessary. Make sure you rename the database names accorsing to
- where you want them on the record. i.e. Field1, Field2, Header, etc. Click on OK,
- This is completed. Note that the way Pilot 1000,5000 edits categories is much different
- than how it is done on the PalmPilots.

- Select a database:

- In the Database list view, select the database yoy would like to enter by
- tapping on database name. This should take you to the Record List View.

- Delete a database:
-
- Select the database so you will be taken to the Record List View. From the
- menu, select Database -> delete database. This will delete the entire database from the
- PalmPilot.

- Creating an record:
-
- Tap the 'new' button on the Record List View. This will take you to the
- Record Edit View. Enter the record heading and 5 fields. Note - due to the design
- of the database to ensure flexability, attribte fields are expensive. Only enter
- the attributes that you will need to reference in the future. Tap on the 'done'
- button when finished. This will return you to the Record List View.

- View a Record and its Notes:
-
- While in the Record List View, select an record by tapping on it. This
- will take you to the Record View where you will see all the record fields and
- its notes. You will also be able to add or select a note from this view, or select
- Record > Edit Record from the menu.

- Editing the database field names
-
- From the Record List View select Database -> edit field names from the menu.
- The 'Category Edit' screen will show, so edit the database field names as
- necessary. Make sure you rename the database names accorsing to where you
- want them on the record. i.e. Field1, Field2, Header, etc. Click on OK,
- This is completed. Note that the edit category view on the Pilot 1000,5000
- is much different than on the PalmPilots.

- While in the Record View (where you see the notes), select record->edit
- from the menu. This will take you to the Record edit view and populate the fields
- accordingly. Press 'done' once completed.

- Delete a Record:

- While in the Record View (so you can see the notes), select the menu
- Record -> delete. The Record and all its fields and notes will be deleted
- from the database. You will be returned to the Record List View.

- Note Creation:
-
- While in the Record List View, tap on the 'New Note' button. This will go to
- a the Note Edit view. Enter any information that you wish, and hit 'done'.

- Edit an Existing Note:
-
- While in the Record list view, select the note to edit by tapping on the
- note title. This will take you to the Note Edit View and populate the note field
- accordingly. When finished editing the note, tap the 'Done' button.

- Delete a Note:
-
- While in the Record view, select the note to edit by tapping on the
- note title. This will take you to the Note Edit View and populate the note field
- accordingly. Select the menu Note -> Delete to delete the note. Or, remove the
- entire contents of the note and tap 'Done'

- Installing Simpledb:

- Run the Memory application on your Pilot to verify that 18K of free
- memory is available.

- HotSync your Pilot to complete the installation.
