- Installing VR on your HP100LX and compatible palmtop
- -----------------------------------------------------------
-
- The following files are part of the VR distribution archive:
-
- VR.EXE :(M) the executable for HP100LX and CGA compatibles
- VR.CFG :(N) configuration file, user editable.
- VR.ICN :(N) icon for installation in HP100LX AppMgr.
- VR.DOC :(F) main VR documentation
- WHATSNEW.DOC :(F) list of new features in V1.1
- REGISTER.DOC :(F) how to register VR
- TREX.EXE :(F) regular expression filter
- TREX.DOC :(F) describes the TREX utility
- VRINSTAL.DOC :(F) this file.
- *.VFN :(N) fonts.
- VRKEYS.NRM :(N) keyboard table for normal orientation
- VRKEYS.ROT :(N) keyboard table for rotated orientation
- BEARS1.TXT :(N) 'Bear stories and lookout tales', by Bob
- Graham - sample reading material. (enjoy!)
- BEARS2.TXT :(F) (second part of the stories)
-
- (Note: the 'BEARS' text was split in two for those without
- a ram card)
-
- To install VR, copy the above files to the palmtop using
- the connectivity pack, Eric Meyers ZIP, a terminal program,
- KERMIT or other suitable means. (Refer to your
- documentation for instructions on how to tranfer files to
- your palmtop.)
-
- You can choose between a minimal, normal, or full
- installation. For a minimal installation, copy only the
- files marked (M). For a normal installation, copy the (M)
- and (N) files. For a full installation, copy the (M), (N)
- and (F) files. (All files, currently)
-
- If you are a registered user upgradeing from a V1.0 or
- V1.05 version of VR, be sure to keep a backup of your old
- CFG file. It is suggested you move the [User] section to
- the new CFG file. Please do also refer to the chapter on
- 'New font management' in VR.DOC.
-
- It's probably a good idea to create a new directory that
- will hold the VR files.
-
- If you have an HP100LX, you can now add VR as an icon to
- the 100LX application manager: start MoreApps (hit the
- [&..] key) and press [F2] to add a new application. For
- ex., if you have copied the VR files to directory
- C:\UTILS\VR, here's how you would fill out the dialog that
- follows:
-
- Name: &VR
- Path: c:\utils\vr\vr.exe|90
- Key Assignment: Ctrl+123 (you can't change this)
-
- (Adapt the 'Path' field according to where you put the VR
- files. The value behind the '|' sign is the amount of memory
- that AppMgr should allocate to VR.)
-
- You can leave the comments field blank.
-
- Hint: entering an upside-down question mark as the first
- character in the comments field will suppress the "Press
- any key to return from DOS" prompt when VR is left. You can
- generate this character using [Fn][3].
-
- Now tab to the Icon field to display VR.ICN. Finally, hit
- F10 to accept your entries. You can now start VR by
- hightlighting it using the cursor keys and hitting return.
- You can also start VR by hitting [V] when viewing the
- application managers icon list. If this doesn't work, check
- that none of your other applications already uses [V] as a
- hotkey. If you experience problems starting VR, check the
- 'troubleshooting' section in VR.DOC.
