  6. UK 8-BALL BASIC RULES
  7.  
  8. Set-Up:
  9.  
  10. Played on green baize with Red/Yellow Ballset.
  11. Can be played in singles, tournament or
  12. challenge modes.
  13. If you would like to set up your own rules,
  14. then do this through CUSTOM POOL which will
  15. allow you to configure the game to your exact
  16. preferences.

  18. Aim:
  19.  
  20. The aim of the game is to pocket your ball
  21. group (reds or yellows) and then the black
  22. 8-Ball.
  23.  
  24. UK 8 Ball offers you your very own UK Rules
  25. Pool League in your own home!
  26.  
  27. Rules:
  28.  
  29. (a)    1st player breaks. If a ball is    pocketed
  30.     then that is your group.
  31.     If balls of both groups are pocketed,
  32.     you may select the ball group you
  33.     prefer.
  34.  
  35. (b)     If you do not pot a ball from the break
  36.     the other player has a go, and so on
  37.     until a ball is pocketed and groups are
  38.     then determined.
  39.  
  40. (c)     If you manage to pot a ball, you get 
  41.     another go and continue to do so
  42.     while you continue to pot balls.
  43.  
  44. (d)    Your turn ends if you fail to pot a ball
  45.     or commit a foul.
  46.  
  47. (e)    Fouls are committed by;
  48.  
  49.     - Potting a white (also a foul from the 
  50.       break)
  51.     - Hitting opponents balls before your
  52.       own
  53.     - Potting opponents balls without
  54.       potting one of your own
  55.     - Hitting the 8-Ball before hitting your
  56.       own balls
  57.  
  58.     After a foul, the next player plays the
  59.     cue-ball from the current position.
  60.     This layer has a "free" shot and they
  61.     can hit    ANY ball with their next shot.
  62.     Whether    potted or not, that turn
  63.     ends and they then continue with
  64.     their normal turn.
  65.  
  66. (f)    A foul is commited at the break if at
  67.     least two object balls fail to hit the
  68.     cushions. In this case, the balls are
  69.     re-racked and the player breaks
  70.     again.

  72. (g)    Winning
  73.  
  74.     To win you have to pocket all your
  75.     ball group first and then the 8-Ball.
  76.     You can also win by default if the
  77.     other player pots the 8-Ball whilst
  78.     they still have balls on the table.

  80. US 8-BALL RULES

  84. Played on Blue Baize with the Spots/Striped
  85. Numbered Ballset. Can be played in singles,
  86. tournament or challenge modes.

  100. (e)    Fouls
  101.  
  102.     After a foul, there is no FREE shot,
  103.     but the other player make pick up and
  104.     place the cue ball in any desired
  105.     position.

  107.     This is the same also for the cue-ball
  108.     after it has been potted.

  110. Open Table Ruling:
  111.  
  112. The table remains "Open" (ie. Any ball can be
  113. potted) until a single ball-type has been potted
  114. by a player and effectively chosen.
  115. If a player pots a ball from each group then
  116. the table remains open.

  119. CUSTOM 8 BALL POOL

  121. Set-up:
  122.  
  123. Set up by default for a usual UK "Pub" game,
  124. although the rules are fully configurable,
  125. via the options-screen.

  131. Custom Pool allows everyone to play their
  132. favourite style of 8 Ball!

  135. Potting Opponents Balls always fouls? (YES NO)
  136.  
  137.     - If set to yes and you pot an 
  138.       opponents ball regardless of 
  139.       whether you also potted one of 
  140.       your own balls, a foul results.
  141.       Default is YES.
  142.  
  143. Ball in Hand after Potting cue ball? (YES NO)
  144.  
  145.     - If set to YES and a player pots the
  146.       cue-ball then the other player may 
  147.       position the ball anywhere where
  148.       desired. If set to NO then the player
  149.       must play the cue-ball from the 
  150.       break position.
  151.       Default is NO.
  152.  
  153. Re-Spot 8-Ball if potted illegally? (YES NO)
  154.  
  155.     - If set to yes then the 8-Ball is 
  156.       respotted if pocketed illegally.
  157.       This removes the rule of 
  158.       accidentally pocketing the 8-Ball
  159.       meaning on-the-spot defeat.
  160.       Default is NO.
  161.  
  162. No Free Shot If Only 8-Ball left to Pot? (YES NO)
  163.  
  164.     - If set to yes, Free shots do not 
  165.       count when there is just the 8 Ball
  166.       left to pot.
  167.       Default is NO.
  168.  
  169. Free Shots until Miss ? (YES NO)
  170.  
  171.     - If yes, then the player who has 
  172.       been given a free shot, continues
  173.       to play until they fail to pot a 
  174.       ball, whereby their normal go would
  175.       commence. Commonly known as 
  176.       "2 Free Shots Rule" in some regions.
  177.       Default is YES.
  178.  
  179. Open Table Rule ? (YES NO)
  180.  
  181.     - If yes, then the table remains open
  182.       until a player pots a single ball to 
  183.       determine their ball-group. Potting 
  184.       both ballgroups in one go leaves the
  185.       table open. If set to No, the player 
  186.       potting both balls would select which
  187.       group they wished to shoot for.
  188.       Default is NO.
  189.  
  190. Free Ball after Foul ? (YES NO)
  191.  
  192.     - If set to yes, then the player has a 
  193.       free shot prior to his next shot. 
  194.       Use this in conjunction with the Ball
  195.       in Hand option. Default is YES.

  197. Which Ballset to Play ? (UK US)
  198.  
  199.     - Play the UK (Red/Yellow) and US 
  200.       (Stripes/Spots Numbered 1.15)
  201.      
  202. Which Baize Colour to Use ? (Green Blue)

  204.     - Use traditional UK Green Baize or 
  205.       US Blue Baize.

  207. As well as the above options, others are 
  208. available which effect the run of the table and
  209. the skill involved with making shots. Consult 
  210. the options screen for further details of these.

  213. SPEED POOL
  214.  
  215. Set-Up:
  216.  
  217. Ballset and colour as defined in the options 
  218. screen. The run of the table and the aiming aid
  219. are always set by the rules to make sure that 
  220. every game has an equal footing as the top
  221. scores can be saved to disk for posterity.
  222.  
  223. Aim: 
  224.  
  225. Clear the table of balls as fast as possible.
  226. This can be in ANY ball order. If the white 
  227. (cue) ball is potted, it must be placed at 
  228. the break position. The clock stops when 
  229. the last ball is potted.
  230.  
  231. Speed Pool will test your reflexes and hand-eye
  232. co-ordination. Who will clock the fastest time?

  235. 9 BALL
  236.  
  237. Set-Up:
  238.  
  239. US Baize and US Ballset, Numbers 1-8 and 
  240. Striped 9 Ball racked in a diamond.

  242. Aim:
  243.  
  244. To win, you must pot the 9 Ball legally.
  245.  
  246. 9 Ball is a fast paced game of high skill..
  247. watch out for those cannons and kisses...

  254. (a)    You MUST hit the lowest number ball 
  255.     first, failure to do so is a FOUL!
  256.  
  257. (b)    You may pot other balls as long as 
  258.     you hit the lowest ball number first.
  259.  
  260. (c)    After legally potting a ball, 
  261.     you stay at the table.
  262.  
  263. (d)     After a foul, the opposing player may 
  264.     place the white (cue) ball anywhere on
  265.     the table!
  266.  
  267. (e)    The game ends when the 9 ball is 
  268.     potted legally (ie. when it`s the last
  269.     on the table, or if it`s potted after
  270.     hitting the lowest ball number first).

  273. SURVIVOR (Killer)
  274.  
  275. Set-Up:
  276.  
  277. 8 Ball, with table set up as in the 
  278. options-screen.
  279.  
  280. Aim:
  281.  
  282. The aim is to be the last player remaining.
  283.  
  284. Survivor is often played as a gambling game,
  285. where each player pays an "entrance fee", 
  286. which the winner takes. It`s not necessary, 
  287. but does add a little "spice" to the game, 
  288. especially when eight players are involved!
  289.  
  290. Team17 do not condone gambling activities.
  291.  
  292. Rules
  293.  
  294. (a)    Up to 8 players can play, taking one 
  295.     shot alternatively.
  296.  
  297. (b)    Each player has three "lives"
  298.  
  299. (c)    On a player's turn, they must pot any
  300.     ball except the white (cue) ball. 
  301.     If they pot a ball, then they leave 
  302.     the table with their lives intact.
  303.  
  304. (d)     Should a player fail to pot a ball, 
  305.     or pot the white (cue) ball then they 
  306.     leave the table and lose a life. 
  307.     If all three lives are lost, then they
  308.     are out of the game.
  309.  
  310. (e)     The cue-ball, if potted, can be placed 
  311.     anywhere by the next player.
  312.  
  313. (f)     When all balls have been potted and 
  314.     more than one player remains, 
  315.     the balls are re-racked and play
  316.     continues.
  317.  
  318. (g)     Anyone breaking has an extra shot, 
  319.     unless they pot a ball from the break.
  320.  
  321. (h)    Play continues until all players except
  322.     one are out... that player is the 
  323.     survivor (or killer) and they win 
  324.     the game.

  327. 9 BALL CHALLENGE
  328.  
  329. Set-Up:
  330.  
  331. This is a single player arcade game based on 
  332. standard "9 Ball" and usual 9-Ball rules still
  333. apply.
  334.  
  335. Points are awarded for your performance,
  336. judged on how many balls were potted 
  337. sequentially in number order, how many shots
  338. it took you and how quickly you did it. 
  339. Bonuses can be earned by potting balls 
  340. in special pockets.
  341.  
  342. You start with a number of lives which 
  343. represent the number of shots available - 
  344. you lose a life if you fail to pot a ball, 
  345. you lose two if you pot the white (cue) ball.
  346. Three are lost if you hit the wrong ball! 
  347. If you pocket a ball legally (ie you hit the
  348. lowest ball first) then no life is lost 
  349. on that turn.
  350.  
  351. Play continues, with the balls re-racking until 
  352. you lose all your lives during play. The table 
  353. is complete when the 9 ball is legally pocketed.
  354.  
  355. On game over, you are given your score and 
  356. ranking. If high, you can enter the hall of fame.

  358.  
  359. 8/15 BALL
  360.  
  361. Aim:
  362.  
  363. Pot your group (2-8 or 9-15) then pot the yellow
  364. one (1), the first to do so is the winner.
  365. You must pocket the 8 or 15 (dependent on 
  366. your ball group) in the SIDE pockets.
  367.  
  368. Rules:
  369.  
  370. The balls numbered 8 and 15 are special and
  371. have to be potted in the side pockets. 
  372. Any foul on these balls will mean that the ball
  373. is respotted.
  374.  
  375. After pocketing all balls of your group, you 
  376. must nominate a pocket for the 1 (Yellow) ball.
  377.  
  378. Breakup is valid when at least three balls hit
  379. the cushions
  380.  
  381. Fouls:
  382.  
  383. - hitting opponents balls first
  384. - potting the white ball
  385. - missing your ball-group or hitting the (1) ball
  386.   first
  387.         
  388. After a foul, the other player has a free ball 
  389. (positioning is limited to the left rectangle) 
  390. and any balls potted in the shot have to be 
  391. respotted in the usual way...
