  1. UltraWave(tm) Patch Library Piano Patches Quick Install:

  3. Patch Manager V1.5 (ships with V3.5x UltraSound software) now has a Patch
  4. Bank Manager which allows setting up and nameing your own custom General MIDI
  5. set(s) according to your own preferences. This is made possible by UltraSound's
  6. breakthrough RAM based Wavetable synthesis system.

  8. What follows here is just enough information to get you started with your new
  9. UltraWave(tm) custom piano patches, without going into a detailed explanation
  10. of Patch Man V1.5's many new features. For a complete description of Patch Man
  11. and the new 'Patch Bank Manager' feature, please refer to the UltraSound
  12. User Guide.

  14. - First, copy the patch files into your /Ultrasnd/midi directory.
  15. - Run Patch Manager V1.5 and click on the 'Bank Manager' menu item. 
  16. - Click on the 'Selected bank' list box arrow and select 'melodic bank 0' from
  17.   the patch bank list.
  18. - Next, select (click on) 'gppiano.pat' in the right column named 'patches
  19.   available'.
  20. - Now select 'acpiano.pat' in the left '# name, and patch' column. Now that the
  21.   destination patch and source patch have been selected,
  22. - Click on the  the '<<' button between the list boxes. 
  23. - Click the 'Patch Manager' menu item to return to Patch Manager. Double click
  24.   on 'Acoustic Grand Piano' to load it, and audition it with your MIDI keyboard
  25.   or with the mouse cursor on the Patch Man piano keyboard.

  27. When 'ACPIANO is selected in Patch Man or a program change in a MIDI file asks
  28. for an Acoustic piano (General MIDI patch #1), GPPIANO.PAT will load and play
  29. instead of the original ACPIANO.PAT.
  30.  
  31. UltraSound uses initialization files in Windows and DOS to find the default
  32. patches it uses. In Windows, this file is 'Ultrasnd.ini' which can
  33. be found in your \UltraSnd\Windows directory. In DOS, 'default.cfg' in
  34. the \ultrasnd\midi directory is used.

  36. To use new patches, the 'Ultrasnd.ini'(in Windows) or 'Defaut.cfg (in DOS)
  37. file is altered to point to the new patch's name, instead of the standard
  38. patch. The entries look like this: '0 = acpiano'. When you do the patch
  39. substitution, the Ultrasnd.ini' file is altered to look for the newly assigned
  40. patches when requested by the software or user; eg: '0 = Newpatch.pat'.

  42. In Windows,  UltraSound's Patch Bank Manager for Windows looks after this
  43. mapping for you, allowing new 'Banks' of patches to be assigned and named
  44. as desired; eg: 'Jazz GM set #27', 'Garage Rock #6', Al's Funk House'  etc..

  49. The included MIDI file 'The Last Days of Summer' (c)copyright  by Tracy Hurst
  50. is provided to demonstrate the GPPIANO patch. This .mid can be played on any
  51. UltraSound with 512K RAM or more, or on a 256k GUS with the 'conserve memory'
  52. option selected in the UltraSound setup dialog in Windows' Control Panel
  53. 'Drivers' applet.

  55. Advanced Gravis is continually adding features to and improving UltraSound
  56. software. Recent updates include the addition of the Patch Banking feature,
  57. simultaneus digital recording and playback, and more. If there is a GUS
  58. software update included, unzip it into a temporary directory, and follow the
  59. instructions in it's zip file on how to install the update.
