  172. ===== Installation =====================================

  175. Install MAPIT:
  176.  
  177.     The shareware version of MAPIT is distributed as a one, two, or
  178.     three disk set.  The installation process copies MAPIT to your hard
  179.     drive.
  180.  
  181.     Insert the first MAPIT diskette into floppy drive A: (or B:) and
  182.     enter
  183.  
  184.          C:> A:INSTALL
  185.  
  186.     The install program will ask where you want the MAPIT data stored
  187.     (C:\MAPIT) and complete the installation for you.

  189.     The Install program normally runs MAPIT for you the first time.
  190.  
  191.     MAPIT REQUIRES A MOUSE.  Unless you have a mouse physically attached
  192.     to your computer AND have installed its driver, you will be unable
  193.     to operate MAPIT.  You can exit MAPIT from the keyboard by entering
  194.     <CTRL>Q.

  196.     If you see a cursor when you run MAPIT, everything is okay.  SKIP
  197.     THE NEXT SECTION.

  200. How to Install a Mouse:
  201.  
  202.     Install the mouse driver by issuing the following command at the
  203.     command prompt.

  205.         C:> "path"\MOUSE             (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\MOUSE)

  207.     where "path" is the path to the directory containing the mouse
  208.     driver.
  209.  
  210.     Place this command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT so MOUSE is always available.

  212.     Caution:  Windows is smart and will show a mouse cursor without the
  213.     mouse driver's being installed.  If the cursor doesn't appear when
  214.     you run MAPIT, <CTRL>Q out and try to edit a file with the standard
  215.     DOS editor from the DOS prompt (EDIT VENDINFO.DIZ).  If you don't
  216.     have a mouse cursor in the editor, the driver isn't loaded.  Try
  217.     loading it from the DOS prompt as above, and if that works, add the
  218.     same command near the end of your AUTOEXEC.BAT but before any call
  219.     to WINdows.

  222. How to Run MAPIT:

  224.     Run MAPIT with the shareware data by entering

  228.     Each time MAPIT runs, it looks for the private database
  229.     EXTENDED.MP3. If not found, it creates a zero length EXTENDED.MP3.

  231.     To run MAPIT with the Columbus demo, copy COLUMBUS.MP3 over
  232.     EXTENDED.MP3 before runing MAPIT.

  245. Establishing your Time Zone:

  247.     MAPIT dynamically displays a calculated day and time for any place
  248.     in the world based on your computer's clock and the value you assign
  249.     the environmental variable TZ which you can set in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  250.     file.  Use the following syntax to establish TZ:

  252.          set  TZ=tzn[+|-]hh[:mm[:ss]]dzn

  254.     where
  255.          tzn      - three-character standard time zone name.
  256.          hh:mm:ss - offset from GMT in hours and optionally minutes
  257.                     and seconds.  Use positive for west, neg for east.
  258.          dzn      - three-character savings time zone name.

  281.     You can distribute MAPIT on a single 1.44MB diskette, two 720KB
  282.     diskettes, or three 360KB diskettes.  Place MAPITA.PAK on the first
  283.     diskette along with the install files and all files except
  284.     [optinally] those listed next, place MAPITB.PAK on the first or
  285.     second diskette, and MAPITC.PAK on the first, second, or third.

  287.     The installation program works with one, two, or three floppies or
  288.     from a single directory of a CD-ROM or hard drive.  Just  enter
