- 1.1 ... Disclaimer.
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~
- Us here at Visions UK are not and will not be held responsible for
- any damage to your health or hardware as a result of using this program and
- it's associated files. The program has been extensively tested and not once
- has it `Guru'-ed so if anything goes wrong, don't blame us. However, when
- using the program, the USA deliver a nuclear bomb to the Russians, blowing them
- off the face of the Earth, causing a 900ft high tidal wave to crash into
- California, making the ground soil to become very unstable, which makes the
- whole of Western America collaspe into the sea and drown all that lived there,
- it might be our fault, Read the press to find out.

- 1.3 ... Stuff.

- When you register RDS v3 you are entitled to a free upgrade (RDS v4
- at the moment). At the time I code a major upgrade, you will receive a copy.

- 3 ... Introduction to RDS v3.
- ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- 3.1 ... What are RDS's?
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Basically, RDS's (or Random Dot Stereograms) are those posters that
- look like a load of dots, which, when you look at them funny, magically produce
- a 3D picture in front of your eyes. For the slightly more advanced of you,
- RDS's (or Random Dot Stereograms) are those posters that look like a load of
- dots, which, when you look at them funny, magically produce a 3D picture in
- front of your eyes.
-
-
- 3.2 ... A Step-By-Step Guide to Seeing RDS's.
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If you can already see RDS's, them there is no real point in reading
- this section. If you can't, read on. It's probably better to start off trying
- to see a few of the many commercially available ones such as those from the
- shop that's spelt rather similarly to the capital of Greece (that's "Athens"
- folks) except the `s' is an `a'. To see them more easily, stick them under a
- sheet of glass, on a table or desk in a well lit room. Now looking down, onto
- the poster, focus on your reflection. Now just slightly alter your focus and
- position of the eyes and the 3D picture should appear. Magic! Once you can
- see them after a short time of looking at them, you should be able to see them
- on the Moniter. Load one of the few examples into DPaint and get rid of the
- toolbox by pressing `F10'. Now try to see it. Once you can see it, try the
- other examples. You are now ready to produce your own RDS's to impress your
- friends.
-
-
-
- 4 ... How to Use RDS v3.
- ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This Program only has one menu! Yes, you've guessed it the "Main Menu"
- from here you have total control avor your finished product. A quick
- description of each option is given below if you can't figure it out yet.
-
- At any point in the program, pressing F10 will quit you to DOS.
-
-
- 4.1 ... The Menu.
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~
-
- 4.1.1 ... The "Process a PCX file" Option.
- ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Select this option and you instantly, well very quickly (unless
- you have a XT in which case it will be quite slow) you will be presented with
- a list of PCX file currently residing in the current directory. Select a file
- by using the arrow keys to move the bar up or down and the picture will be
- displayed and converted into RDS RAW format. You will then be asked to type a
- description of the picture.
-
-
- 4.1.2 ... The "Load RDS Data file" Option.
- ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Selecting this option makes a large monster come round to your
- house to kick your windows in. Not really. It actually is very similar to
- the "Process a PCX file" option, and using this you can load in a pre-processed
- RDS file.
-
-
- 4.1.3 ... The "Change Pattern" Option.
- ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This option will change what the background pattern of the RDS
- will look like. Next to it is a small box showing a preview of the pattern.
- Do not bother to strain your eyes looking for a RDS in it as there isn't one!
-
-
- 4.1.4 ... The "Draw RDS" Option.
- ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is the big one, this is what you have been waiting for,
- this is the whole point of making this program, yes you've guessed it, this
- will draw your RDS. This may take some time but not a lot.
-
- In the full priced version you can have full screen RDS's
- but, however if you haven't upgraded you are stuck with preview mode only.
-
- When you've finished looking at it, press
-
- 'E' - to go back to the main menu.
-
- 4.1.4.1 ... Changing the colours.
- ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is something I have not seen in other RDS programs
- and by pressing '1','2' or '3' the colours of your RDS will be altered.
-
- '1' - This will return it to the blue/yellow colour scheme.
- '2' - This will randomly generate new colours.
- '3' - This will greyscale your RDS.
-
- These colours can be saved and reloaded by typing 'S' or 'L'
-
- 'S' - Save colour map
- 'L' - Load colour map
-
-
- 4.1.4.2 ... Colour cycling.
- ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This will cycle all the colours, making a really nice
- affect which will astound your friends!!!
-
- 'R' - Rotates or cycles the palette
-
-
- 4.1.5 ... The "About this Prog" Option.
- ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This is just some information which my friends insisted I put
- in so please have a look at it.
-
-
- 4.1.6 ... The "Quit" Option.
- ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Waa-hay. Exiting from RDS v3? Ummmm, not a lot to say about
- this one - try it and see.
-
-
- 4.2 ... Something really important about the PCX files.
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The PCX files which can be processed by RDS v3 MUST be of size
- 320x200 with 16 colours, otherwise strange things will appear on your moniter.
-
-
-
- 4.3 ... The Guide to Creating RDS's Using RDS v3 - A Tutorial.
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- First of all you'll need to draw a picture. Load up DPaint
- or a similar paint package and on the start-up screen select a 320x200 sized 16
- colour screen (MCGA 16 will do nicely). Once you've done that, call up the
- palette requester. Make the top, left hand colour bright yellow (full
- red and green with no blue), click on "SPREAD", then click on the in the bottom,
- right hand colour box. This should have given you 16 shades of yellow.
- If not, try again. Right so you've got your yellows so click on "OK"
-
- Now you are free to draw your picture. There are a couple of things
- to remember whilst drawing however, these are :-
-
- 1) The brighter the yellow you're using, the furthur away it'll
- appear when you come to convert it into a RDS.
-
- and 2) Don't use the 2-3cm on the extreme left and right of the
- screen as these areas aren't converted to the RDS.
-
- Also, if you use a lot of the brighter colours, the extreme left of
- the RDS may appear to be corrupted. I can't do anything about this, Sorry! If
- you are using text, make sure it is bold and quite large as RDS's don't portray
- details terribly well. That's about it so get creating your pictures. Once
- you've got your picture to your liking, SAVE IT AS A PCX FILE.
- ~~~
-
- You must now copy this PCX file into the same directory as RDS v3
- To do this you type :-
-
- COPY filename.PCX C:\RDS
-
- Assuming that you are in your DPAINT directory after quiting from it,
- and that RDS v3 is in the directory 'C:\RDS'.
-
-
- The next step is to load it into RDS v3. Type 'RDSFAST.EXE' and go
- to the main menu by pressing "RETURN" on the 'title screen'. Select "Process
- a PCX file" by using the arrow keys and return. Your PCX file should now appear
- on the screen, if not then you haven't saved it properly or haven't copied it
- properly. If it does appear then select it by pressing RETURN and your picture
- should now appear. Type a description for it when it asks and then you will
- be back in the main menu. Change your pattern if you want, and then select
- "DRAW RDS" and you can watch the computer create your RDS before your very
- eyes.
-
-
- 5 ... Credits, Thanks and Greets.

-
- 5.1 ... Credits.
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~~
- Basically, there have been two people who have made RDS v3 what it
- is. They are :-

-
- 5.2 ... Thanks.
- ~~~ ~~~~~~~
- Thanks to Carl Drinkwater without whom this would not be possible.
- Thanks to everyone in the Greets section below (Well, most of them) as they
- have probably done something for me sometime in the past, and probably
- in the future.
-
- 5.3 ... Greets.
