  1. Life screen saver for windows

  4. Requirements:

  6. The program requires windows 3.1, it will work with any screen resolution
  7. upto 1280 x 1024.

  10. Installation:

  12. Copy the file LIFE.SCR into your windows directory.
  13.

  15. Operation:

  17. To activate Life as the current screen saver go to the desktop dialog
  18. in the control panel, in the screen saver list box scroll down until
  19. "Life" is shown then click on it.

  22. Testing:

  24. After selecting "Life" as above click on the Test button and the program
  25. will run on the default settings.

  28. Configuring:

  30. After selecting "Life" as above, click on the Setup button and the program
  31. will allow you to change the following settings:

  34.  Time interval      - This sets the delay in milliseconds between each
  35.                       generation (with very small values your CPU may not
  36.                       complete all processing before the time expires, in
  37.                       this case the simulation will run as fast as it can).
  38.  
  39.  Random seed        - Only used when the Fixed start option is turned off,
  40.                       provides the start number for a random sequence.
  41.  
  42.  Percentage Live    - Only used when Fixed start option is turned off,
  43.                       provides the percentage of screen positions which
  44.                       have cells in them at the start of the simulation.

  46.  Clear background   - If this box is checked the screen will be cleared
  47.                       before any cells are drawn, otherwise the cells will
  48.                       be drawn on top of whatever is there when the saver
  49.                       starts.

  51.  Fixed start        - When this box is checked the program will draw a
  52.                       solid rectangle of cells at the start of the
  53.                       simulation and whenever it finds the simulation
  54.                       repeating, this option disables the random
  55.                       start method.

  57.  Fixed start width  - Controls the width in cells of the fixed start
  58.                       rectangle.

  60.  Fixed start hight  - Controls the hight in cells of the fixed start
  61.                       rectangle.

  63.  Password protected - Enables a password prompt when the screen saver is
  64.                       interupted.

  66.  Set password       - When the password option is enabled, this
  67.                       button allows your password to be set.

  69.  About              - Click on this button to show information about
  70.                       the program.
