- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- INTRODUCTION
- ============
-
- Welcome to the EnVision Publisher Tutorial. This tutorial
- consists of 14 step-by-step lessons. You will learn how to
- turn a plain publication file into a professional looking
- flier.
-
- Below is a Glossary of Terms that will be used throughout
- this tutorial. Take a quick look at each one to help you
- better understand the lessons that follow.
-
- On your disks there is a file called MANUAL.DOC. This is the
- EnVision Publisher Reference Guide. If you didn't print it
- already, we recommend that you do so. Just like this tutorial,
- the Reference Guide is a plain text file that you can print
- from the DOS prompt with the COPY MANUAL.DOC PRN command.
-
- When you register to receive EnVision Publisher Plus or
- EnVision Publisher Pro, you will also receive a 350 page
- illustrated and indexed professionally printed User's Guide.
-
- Please note that this tutorial assumes that you have a mouse.
- We recommend using EnVision Publisher with a mouse. However,
- if you do not have a mouse, EnVision Publisher can emulate one
- through the keyboard. To find out more about the keyboard
- emulated mouse, please refer to the section "The Keyboard
- Emulated Mouse" in the Reference Guide. If you do have a
- mouse, but it is not being recognized by the program, please
- refer to the section called "Troubleshooting: Answers to
- Common Questions" in the Reference Guide (MANUAL.DOC).
-

- LESSON 1: The EnVision Publisher Screen
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson you will get acquainted with the
- EnVision Publisher screen.
-
- Objective: To learn where and what are the:
- (a) Menu Panel
- (b) Tool Panel
- (c) Instant Save Button
- (d) Status Line
- (e) Rulers
- (f) Quick-Access Panel
- (g) Publication Page
- (h) Page Scroll Bars
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- Starting from top to bottom:
- (a) The "Menu Panel" is located at the top left of the
- screen, and contains six menu buttons: File,
- Edit, Page, Text, Options, and Help. When
- selected, each of these menu items drops a pull-
- down menu containing its own set of commands.
-
- (b) The "Tool Panel" is located to the right of the
- "Menu Panel" and contains these tools (from left to
- right): Text tool, Pointer tool, Line tool, Polyline
- tool, Box tool, Polygon tool, Bezier Curve tool, and
- the Ellipse tool. The current tool is highlighted
- (reverse video).
-
- (c) The "Instant Save Button" is the button located in
- the upper right corner of the screen. While in Ready
- mode click on this button to save your publication.
- This is the same as selecting "Save" from the File
- menu. Note that the "Instant Save Button" shows the
- name of the current publication file written in it (if
- the file is a new file it shows "UNTITLED").
-
- (d) The "Status Line" is below the menu panel extending
- across the screen. It is divided into four sections:
- (1) Program mode(2) Type information, (3) Leading
- and Justification information, and (4) Fill specs
- and Line specs. The information on the status line
- changes as you use the program to reflect its current
- state. Note that the "Program Mode" section is
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- 7
-
-
-
-
-

- --------------------------------------------------------------
- particularly important as it reflects the program
- environment you are currently in.
- The available program modes are:
- Ready - you may access most of the menu commands or
- you may select a tool to enter text, create
- or edit an existing page object.
- Text edit - you can enter or edit text in a text
- block on the publication page.
- Scale/Drag - you can scale or drag objects on the
- publication page.
- Edit nodes - this mode occurs after a new object
- was drawn with one of the drawing tools, or
- when an existing object was clicked on with
- the pointer tool.
- Draw object - this mode occurs when one of the
- drawing tools is activated from the Tool
- Panel and a new object is being drawn.
-
- (e) The "Rulers" are located below the status line, and
- can be set to inches, centimeters, or picas.
-
- (f) The "Quick-Access Panel" is the vertical icon strip
- located along the left side of the screen. It displays
- 15 icons, which are shortcuts to some menu commands.
-
- (g) The "Publication Page" is the white rectangular area
- between the rulers. Here you create your publication.
- Depending on the magnification level, all or just a
- portion of the page can be seen on the screen at one
- time.
-
- (h) The "Page Scroll Bars" are located along the Right
- side of the screen and are used to scroll the
- publication page up, down, left, or right. To use the
- scroll bars, simply click on one of its arrow buttons,
- or click on the elevator button (the small square),
- and drag it in the direction desired. At some
- magnification levels there are also horizontal "Page
- Scroll Bars" on the bottom of the screen. (At "View
- All" there are no scroll bars).

- LESSON 2: Opening a Publication
- ............................................................
- Summary: You are about to open a publication file that was
- already created in EnVision Publisher. This file
- contains an unfinished flier For EnVision - you
- will finish it in this tutorial.
-
- Objective: To learn how to open an existing publication file.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Click on the "File" menu in the menu panel.
-
- 2. When the "File" menu pulls-down, select the "Open"
- command by clicking on it once. (You can also select
- "Open" by pressing letter "O" on your keyboard).
-
- 3. When the "Open" dialog box pops-up, click on the
- button next to "Template". This tells the program that
- you wish to load a template, not a publication.
-
- 4. Now position the mouse cursor over the file named
- "TUTOR.EVT" in the "Files" pick list, and click
- with the left mouse button. The name "TUTOR.EVT"
- will become highlighted. (If TUTOR.EVT is already
- highlighted, go to the next step.)
-
- 5. Next, click on the "Open" button. The dialog box
- will close, and the template file will be loaded.
- You will see the name "UNTITLED" showing in the Instant
- Save Button. This is because we opened a template, so
- that we may assign a new filename to it without
- overwriting the original file.

- LESSON 3: Working with a Headline
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will type a centered text
- headline into text block number 1.
-
- Objective: How to choose the Text Tool.
- What is the I-Beam, and some of its uses.
- How to Enter Text.
- How to Center Text.
- How to open the "Type specs" dialog box.
- How to select a font, its size, and style.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Move your mouse cursor over to the "Tool Panel",
- located on top of the screen, next to the "Menu
- panel". Click on the "Text Tool" (this is the tool
- that has a capital letter "T" on it). (You could have
- also selected the text tool by pressing ALT-F1.)
-
- Choosing this tool will cause your mouse cursor to
- change its shape into an I-Beam when it is within the
- page area.
-
- 2. Position the I-Beam within text block number 1 and
- click (this is the first box on the top of the page
- with the number 1 to the left of it).
-
- Note: the dotted magenta boxes around the page objects are
- the "object frames." They serve as guidelines so
- that you know where to click to select the object.
- The object frames can be toggled on or off by
- choosing "Object frames" from the "Options" menu.
- For the purpose of this tutorial we recommend that
- you leave them on -- we will instruct you when to
- turn them off.
-
- 3. When the text cursor appears (a blinking vertical
- line), go to the Menu Panel and click once on the
- "Text" menu selection. When the "Text" menu opens,
- select the "Center" command by clicking on it.
-
- 4. The next step is to choose the type style and size of
- our text before we type it in. Now click on the
- "Text" menu, when it opens click on the "Type Specs"
- command. Choosing this command will open the "Type

- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Specs" dialog box.
-
- 5. Let's select a font for our headline text from
- the "Font" pick list. Select "Helvetique" by clicking
- on it once. (The font name will become highlighted when
- selected.) If Helvetique is not showing in the "Font"
- pick list, click on the pick's arrow buttons to scroll
- the font names.
-
- 6. Next click on the down-arrow button of the "Size" pick
- list. Keep clicking on this down-arrow button, until
- you see the number "32". This will be the size (in
- points) of our intended headline text. Click once on
- the number "32" to highlight it.
-
- 7. Now move your mouse over to the "Style" option and
- click once in the "Bold" checkbox (a checkmark will
- appear when selected).
-
- 8. Click on the "OK" button to exit the "Type specs"
- dialog box and accept the selections you've made. Any
- text that you type in next, will have the text
- attributes that we selected in the previous steps.
-
- 9. Now we are ready to type in the headline text. Type in
- the following words: "Introducing EnVision Publisher"
-
- Note: When typing the above sentence, please enter it
- exactly as it appears (upper and lower case
- characters). Do NOT enter it in capital
- letters because it will overflow the predefined
- text block that is provided for the headline.
-
- 10. At this point the word "Introducing" should be on the
- first line, and "EnVision Publisher" should be
- on the second line. We now finished creating the
- headline in text block number 1. Click the RIGHT button
- on the mouse or press the ESC key to exit Text-Edit
- mode and go into Ready mode (note how the status line
- updated the mode section).

- LESSON 4: Inserting and Deleting Text
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will be working with text block
- number 2.
-
- Objective: How to Insert text.
- How to Highlight a word.
- How to Delete text.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Position your I-Beam in text block number 2 and click
- once to select it. A blinking text cursor will appear
- in the text block. Now move the I-Beam over to the
- first line of the second paragraph, right in front of
- the word "graphical", and click once. The blinking text
- cursor will now show at that position. (If it does not
- appear in that location, click there again).
-
- 2. Next, type in the word: "modern", and press spacebar.
-
- 3. We will now highlight the word "liking" on the third
- line of the third paragraph to replace with
- "preference". Move the I-Beam over to the front of the
- word "liking", and press and hold down the LEFT mouse
- button. While holding the button pressed, drag the
- I-Beam to the right along the text line, until the
- entire word "liking" is highlighted (highlighted text
- is shown in reverse video).
-
- 4. Next press the Delete key or choose "Clear" from the
- "Edit" menu to delete the highlighted text. Now that
- the word "liking" was deleted, type in the word
- "preference".
-
- Note: We could have bypassed the pressing of the Delete
- key in step 4 by simply typing the word "preference"
- while the word "liking" was highlighted, because the
- program automatically deletes highlighted text when new
- text is typed in. You will find this to be a handy
- feature as you become proficient with the program.

- LESSON 5: Cutting and Pasting Text
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will learn how to use the "Cut"
- and "Paste" commands. We will be working with text
- blocks number 2 and 3.
-
- Objective: Highlighting a paragraph.
- How to Cut text.
- How to Paste text.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Position your I-Beam anywhere in the last paragraph
- (in text block number 2). (Note that this paragraph
- contains only one line). Now, double-click anywhere on
- the line. The whole paragraph should become
- highlighted. If it is not, repeat this step again.
-
- Since this sentence seems to be a little out
- of place here, we will "Cut" it, and then "Paste" it
- into text block number 3.
-
- Note: On slower computers, double clicking may not
- work. Instead, you can highlight text by dragging
- the mouse cursor, while pressing the left button,
- over the text to highlight.
-
- 2. While the paragraph remains highlighted, click on
- the "Edit" menu. When the menu opens, click on
- the "Cut" command.
- The highlighted paragraph will be removed from text
- block number 2 and stored in EnVision Publisher's
- internal clipboard.
-
- 3. Next, position the I-Beam within text block number 3,
- on the empty line to the right of the small black
- square (bullet). Click two times. The blinking text
- cursor should appear where you clicked.
-
- NOTE: If you have a non-VGA display (EGA, CGA, or

- LESSON 6: Copying and Pasting a Graphic
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will be placing square bullets
- next to each paragraph in text block number 3.
-
- Objective: Learning how to use the Pointer tool.
- Copying a Graphic.
- Pasting a Graphic.
- Moving a Graphic.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Click on the "Pointer Tool" located in the "Tool
- Panel" (it's the one that looks like an arrow
- pointing up). The mouse cursor will turn into the
- Pointer arrow, when within the page area.
-
- REMINDER: In case you forgot, the "Tool Panel" is
- located at the top of the screen, to the
- right of the Menu Panel. The "Tool Panel"
- contains eight buttons: the big letter "T",
- the circle, the square, etc. The "Pointer
- Tool" is the one that has an arrow on it.
- For more information about the "Tool Panel"
- read Chapter 4 in EnVision Publisher's User's
- Guide, or the "Reference Guide" on your disk.
- (The 350 page indexed and illustrated User's
- Guide is only available in print with the
- registered versions of EnVision Publisher.)
-
- 2. Look at the first paragraph in text block number 3 (the
- one you just pasted from text block number 2), to the
- left of it you should see a small square -- click on
- it once. The square's edit nodes will appear and the
- mode section on the status line will show "Edit nodes".
-
- 3. Click on the "Edit" menu and then click on the "Copy"
- command. A copy of the square will be placed in
- EnVision Publisher's clipboard.
-
- 4. Now that the square was copied, click the RIGHT mouse
- button (or press the ESC key) to unselect the square.
- If you do not unselect the square, the "Paste command
- will NOT be available (it will show as grayed out) in
- the "Edit" menu. At this point the mode section on the
- status line will change to "READY".

- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 5. Next select the "Edit" menu again, but this time
- click on the "Paste" command. At this point, a copy
- of the square in the clipboard will be pasted on top of
- the original square. (Because the pasted square will
- completely overlap the original square, they will
- appear only as one square).
-
- 6. Before we continue, click on the down-arrow of the
- vertical scroll bar several times, so that a few of the
- paragraphs in text block number 3 as well as our square
- are visible.
-
- 7. Now position the Pointer arrow in the center of the
- square. Click once to select the square. The square's
- edit nodes will show (and the status line will change
- to "Edit nodes"). Click again to bring up the object's
- Scale/Drag nodes (the status line will change to
- Scale/Drag).
-
- 8. Look at the square now. In the center of the square you
- will see a small rectangle showing in reversed color;
- this is the Drag control point, and it is used to move
- objects. The other four control points (one in each
- corner of our rectangle) are used for resizing the
- object, but we do not need to worry about them now.
-
- 9. Position the Pointer arrow in the center of the
- square, over the Drag control point. The Pointer arrow
- should change into the shape of a bull's eye. (Make
- sure that you are over the Drag control point and not
- over one of the Scale control points).
-
- 10. Now press the LEFT mouse button and hold it down. The
- mouse cursor will change into a Grabber Hand.
-
- Note: If the mouse cursor changes into a four-arrow
- cross instead, this means that you did not place
- the mouse over the Drag control point but rather
- over one of the Scale control points. In such a
- case press the RIGHT mouse button or press ESC to
- undo, and repeat the process starting from Step 7
- above.
-
- 11. While still holding down the LEFT mouse button, drag
- the square down, so that it aligns with the first line
- of the second paragraph in text block number 3. Try to
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- 16
-
-
-
-
-

- --------------------------------------------------------------
- align your square with the thick vertical line as well
- as with the first line of the second paragraph. (The
- vertical line serves as a guideline -- we will delete
- it later on).
-
- 12. Repeat steps 5 through 11, until all the paragraphs in
- text block number 3 have a square next to them. But
- remember that everytime you select the "Paste" command,
- the object will be pasted on top of the first square
- from which it was originally copied.

- LESSON 7: Creating a Text Block
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will create a text block
- in the dotted rectangle labeled number 4.
-
- Objective: Creating a text block.
- Entering text into a NEW text block.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Before we proceed, click on the down-arrow of the
- vertical scroll bar several times, until you reach
- the bottom of the page.
-
- 2. Now let's select the "Text Tool" from the "Tool Panel",
- by clicking on the button with the letter "T" in
- it. At this point the mouse cursor will turn into
- an I-Beam.
-
- 3. Locate the dotted red rectangle labeled as number 4.
- This is your guide-rectangle.
- Position the I-Beam in the upper left corner of
- rectangle number 4.
-
- 4. Click and hold down the LEFT mouse button. While
- holding the left mouse button pressed, drag the I-Beam
- to the lower right corner of the rectangle. You will
- see an outline of a box stretching as you drag the
- I-beam -- this is the text block that you are creating.
- Release the mouse button when you fitted your text
- block within the guide-rectangle.
- Note: If you are not satisfied with the size of your
- text block, press the RIGHT mouse button or the
- ESC key to undo it, and repeat the directions
- given in the first paragraph of this step.
-
- 5. When you are done creating your text block as outlined
- in step 4, a blinking text cursor will appear inside
- it. This signals you that you may now start entering
- text. Let's type in the following words:
-
- "To register with Visa or MC call:"
-
- Press ENTER when you are finished entering the text.

- LESSON 8: Importing Text
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will import some text into the
- text block we just created.
-
- Objective: How to Import text from a text file.
- Changing the font and font size of the imported
- text.
- How to center text.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Click with the I-Beam under the first line, in the text
- block we've created in the previous lesson. A blinking
- text cursor should appear. If it does not, click in the
- same location again.(If the cursor is already on the
- second line as it should be if you've just completed
- lesson 7, you can skip this step).
-
- 2. Click on the "Text" menu, and select the "Type specs"
- command. We are going to select the font and the font
- size before we import text, so that the newly imported
- text will take on our new type specifications. You
- may also change the type specifications for your text
- after your import it. For more information on
- importing text, read Chapter 5 and 6 in EnVision
- Publisher's User's Guide, or the "Reference Guide" on
- your disk. (Due to disk space limitation, the 350 page
- indexed User's Guide is only available in print with
- the registered version of EnVision Publisher.)
-
- 3. Now click in the "Font" pick list, and select the
- font named "Modern-Stamp", by clicking on it once.
-
- 4. Next, let's select the size of our font: click on
- "30" in the "Size" pick list. If the "30" is not
- immediately visible, click on one of the arrow
- buttons to scroll through the available sizes. When
- you see the number "30" -- click on it once to
- highlight it.
-
- 5. Now click on the "OK" button. This will close the "Type

- LESSON 9: Importing Graphics
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will import a PCX bit-mapped
- image into the guide-rectangle number 5.
-
- Objective: How to Import Graphics
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Click on the "Pointer Tool" in the "Tool Panel".
- As you'll recall, this is the one with the arrow
- pointing up. Your mouse cursor will turn into the
- Pointer arrow. This will also put you in "Ready mode"
- (as shown in the status line).
-
- 2. Click on the "File" menu, and choose the "Import"
- command. The "Import Graphics" dialog box should
- open.
-
- 3. Click on the file named: "BUGLE.PCX" in the "Files"
- pick list. The name should become highlighted when
- clicked on.
-
- Note: The image that we will import is a monochrome PCX
- image, and it was created using a paint program.
- Practically all paint, draw, illustration, or
- screen capture programs produce images in PCX
- format that are compatible with EnVision
- Publisher.
-
- 4. Next click on the "Import" button. The dialog box
- will close, your page view will set itself to "View
- all" (the entire page will be visible at one time),
- and the mouse cursor will turn into a little camera.
-
- 5. Position the little camera in the upper left corner of
- the guide-rectangle number 5, and click. The BUGLE.PCX
- will import and show on the page. You can later drag it

- LESSON 10: Drawing a Box
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will draw a box around the PCX
- image we imported in Lesson 9.
-
- Objective: How to draw a box.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Click on the Box tool in the Tool Panel. The Box tool
- is the fifth tool from the left, and it has a small
- rectangle drawn on it. The mouse cursor will change
- into a cross while within the page area.
-
- 2. Click on the "Page" menu, and choose "100% size".
- Click on the arrow buttons of the vertical page scroll
- bar to scroll the page until the entire PCX image and
- the guide-rectangle (number 5) around it is shown on
- the screen.
-
- 3. Position the mouse cursor in the upper left corner of
- the guide-rectangle (number 5).
-
- 4. Now click and hold down the LEFT mouse button. While
- still pressing the mouse button, drag it over to the
- lower right corner of the guide-rectangle number 5.
- The outline of a rectangle will appear as you drag the
- mouse. Once you are satisfied with the appearance of
- the rectangle, release the mouse button.
- Note: If you made a mistake while drawing the
- rectangle, or if you are not satisfied with it
- press the RIGHT mouse button or the ESC key to
- undo, and then repeat steps 3 and 4.
-
- 5. Click twice away from the rectangle you've just drawn
- to return to READY mode. The rectangle should now be
- nicely enclosing the PCX image.
-
- Besides boxes, EnVision Publisher can also draw lines, circles
- and ellipses, polylines, polygons, and Bezier curves. These
- can be drawn with any of the available 18 different line
- patterns , and can be filled with any of the 18 fill patterns,
- including "paper-white" which can be used to cover objects or
- portions of objects you do not want to be shown or printed.
- These are advanced features and are beyond the scope of this
- tutorial. For further information, please refer to Chapter 2,

- LESSON 11: Cleaning Up
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will Delete all the guide
- rectangles, lines, and numbers from the Right
- Master page.
-
- Objective: How to access the Master Pages.
- How to clear all items from a page.
- How to access the "Go to" command.
- How to turn off object frames.
- What is the "View all" command.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. Make sure that the "Pointer" tool is selected and that
- you are in READY mode.
-
- 2. Click on the "Page" menu, and then click on the
- "Right master" command. This command will open the
- Right Master page.
-
- Note: The master pages, just like the style sheets,
- character kerning, line leading, filled and
- rotated text, as well as many other advanced
- EnVision Publisher features can greatly simplify,
- automate, and enhance document creation. The
- master pages enable you to have automatic page
- numbers, headers, footers, and global object
- placement in your publications. The style sheets
- enable you to define your own standards for text,
- line, and paragraph formatting that you can use
- across many documents for much easier and faster
- desktop publishing and page layout jobs.
- However, these are advanced features, and they
- are beyond the scope of this tutorial. For more
- information on master pages, read Chapter 8 in
- EnVision Publisher's User's Guide, or the
- "Reference Guide" on your disk. (The 350 page
- indexed and illustrated User's Guide is only
- available in print with the registered versions
- of EnVision Publisher.)
-

- the objects on the page. Click "Yes".
- At this point all the items on our Right Master page
- have been deleted.
-
- 4. Now we want to go back to our publication page. Click
- on the "Page" menu and select the "Go to" command.
- Click on the "OK" button to go to page 1.
-
- 5. At this point we would also like to turn off the object
- frames (the thin dotted lines surrounding the objects
- on the page) so that we can get a clean view of our
- page. Click on the "Options" menu, and then select the
- "Object frame" command.
-
- To put the frames on - just click on this command
- again, but for now let's leave them off.
-
- 6. Now click on the "Page" menu, and select the "View
- all" command. The purpose of this is to see the
- entire page at one time, in order to ensure that all
- objects on the page look good prior to printing.
- You may also move objects around in this view if you
- need to.
-
- Note: You may edit your publication in any of the four
- EnVision Publisher page views (View All, 100%,
- 200%, 400%). For more information on the
- different magnification levels, please see
- Chapter 8 in EnVision Publisher's User's Guide,

- LESSON 12: Saving Your Work
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will Save our publication to
- a disk file.
-
- Objective: How to Save a publication.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
-
- 1. While in READY mode, click on the "File" menu, and
- select the "Save" command. The "Save as" dialog box
- will open.
-
- 2. Next, click in the "Filename" text entry box (or press
- the letter "F" which is the letter that selects the
- "Filename" text entry box). A blinking text cursor will
- appear.
-
- 3. The "Filename" text entry box has the "*.EVP"
- characters in it. We want to delete them and enter the
- name of our publication file.
- Press the backspace key until all the characters in the
- text entry box have been deleted. You are now ready to
- type in a filename, it may be up to 8 characters long.
- Let's type in:
-
- "FLIER"
-
- You don't need to assign an extension since
- EnVision Publisher automatically assigns an ".EVP"
- extension to all "publication" files (or ".EVT" for
- templates).
-
- 4. Click on the "Save" button to save your publication.
-
-
- Note: If you properly followed all the lessons so far, your
- flier should look like the file FLIER2.EVP on your disk
- you can open that file and compare it with yours. (On
- your disk there are other sample publication files, so
- you may later want to take a look at these too). But
- for now, let's get to the most important part of this
- tutorial: printing your publication.

-
- EnVision Publisher -- Tutorial (shareware version)

-
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
- LESSON 13: Printing your work
- ............................................................
- Summary: In this lesson we will print our "FLIER"
- publication that we have created thus far.
-
- Objective: How to print your publication.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
- 1. While in READY mode, click on the "File" menu located
- in the Menu Panel.
-
- 2. When the menu opens click on the "Print" command.
- Choosing this command will pop-up the "Print"
- dialog box.
-
- 3. The "From" and "to" text entry boxes should have a "1"
- showing in each. This means that we only want to
- print from page 1 to page 1. We want to leave this
- as is, because we only have a one page flier, anyway.
-
- 4. The number of copies should also be set to "1".
-
- 5. The "Scale" is usually set to 100%, we want to
- leave this value as is.
-
- 6. The "Options" section will also remain unchanged. We
- are only printing one page, therefore none of those
- apply.
-
- 7. If you know what printer standard your own printer
- emulates, you may now choose it from the "Printer
- emulation or image export" pick list. To select a
- printer emulation, just scroll up and down the list, by
- clicking on the UpArrow or DownArrow buttons.
- When you find the emulation that matches your printer,
- click on it to highlight it, then skip to Step 8. If
- you do not know your printer's emulation, continue
- reading the remainder of this step.
-
- If you are not sure what standard your printer
- emulates, click on the "Find Printer" button.
- This will cause the "Find Printer" dialog box to
- appear. This dialog lists pver 1300 different
- printers and models in alphabetical order, with the
- various emulations that each one supports. (Some
- printers support more than one emulation).
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- 26
-
-
-
-
-
- EnVision Publisher -- Tutorial (shareware version)
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- Scroll down the list to find your printer. When you
- see your printer model showing in the pick list,
- click on it once to highlight it. This will cause the
- available emulations for that printer to show in the
- "Emulates" section of this dialog. Click on one of the
- buttons to the left of the listed emulation, to select
- that emulation. Now click "OK" to close the "Find
- printer" dialog and accept your printer selection.
-
- If you cannot find your printer in this list, and
- you don't know what standard it emulates, refer to
- your printer's manual. Your printer's manual should
- list your printer's emulation. Otherwise, call your
- printer's manufacturer or the dealer from where you
- bought it. We would not be familiar with printers that
- are not listed there, therefore we cannot offer
- technical support on this topic.
-
- 8. If your printer is connected to the LPT1 parallel port
- on your computer (this is the general case for most
- users) then you are now ready to print. Make sure that
- your printer is turned on and on-line, and it has at
- least one sheet of paper. Click "OK" to start printing
- and skip the remainder of this step.
-
- This only applies to users whose printer is NOT
- connected to the LPT1 port, or users using serial
- printers. In this case, you will have to click on the
- "Printer setup" button to bring up the "Printer setup"
- dialog. In this dialog you can specify several
- parameters for your printer. If you are using a serial
- printer make sure that you set the "Port" to COM1 or
- COM2, and that the "Baud", "Parity", "Handshake",
- "Databits", and "Stopbits" are matching your printer's
- requirements. (The default settings will usually work
- with most serial printers). The "PostScript fonts"
- checkbox only applies to PostScript printers, and it
- normally should be left as checked. Click "OK" to close
- the "Printer setup" dialog, then click "OK" in the
- "Print" dialog to print the publication.
-
- 9. During printing, a print progress window will appear on
- the screen.
- Note: Depending on your computer configuration, you
- may be able to significantly improve the print
- speed. See "Print speedup" in Help Topics for
- more details.

-
- Objective: To show EnVision Publisher's advanced capabilities.
- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

- text filled with a various fill patterns and colors.
-
- 6. Now, press the PageDown key to scroll down the page.
-
- 7. Look at the text "SANDWICHED" between an oval and a
- rectangle. Remember, EnVision Publisher is an object-

- will now become highlighted. Next, click the "Open"
- button to open the NEWS.EVP publication.
-
- 10. This is the first page of the Software Vision
