- INTRODUCTION:
-
- Without exception around the world, the job market is getting tougher
- year by year. Securing the job you really want is no easy task and
- yet by using The Electronic C.V. you can present yourself to a
- potential employer in a professional manner and in a format he/she
- will be unable to ignore.
-
- The Electronic C.V. allows you to create a disk based resume which
- you can then distribute to potential employers. While the Electronic
- C.V. will not replace the filling in of application forms, employers
- tend to insist upon these for the purposes of Equal Opportunities, we
- think it will give you a very vital edge and positive professional
- profile, especially for those seeking computer related employment.
-
- The Electronic C.V. runs under DOS and while it looks and feels like
- a Windows application it is completely stand-alone. A truely user
- friendly package, The Electronic C.V. will run in under 640k of RAM!
- Compare that to your average Windows application! You can even
- convert SoundBlaster VOC files which can be added to your C.V. and
- played back to potential employers through the PC speaker (no extra
- hardware needed).
-
- **** STOP PRESS **** The Electronic C.V is also compatible with
- Windows 3.1 WAV sound files. See Appendix 1 for details.
-
- Registered users of this application are given licence to distribute
- their C.V.'s and resumes, together with a very exciting run-time
- program, to who ever they like, as often as they like. The good news
- is that the registered run-time program comes without any copyright
- messages or authoring information. Registration of this unique and
- powerful application costs just £25 plus £2 postage and packing,
- and comes with unlimited support.
-
- Employment Agencies too may find this program an invaluable tool in
- presenting clients to employers. It certainly beats the pants off
- the usual unimpressive piece of card that is sent out. Business
- users will need to contact us regarding a multiuser licence and in
- addition we offer full customisation to include logos and terms of
- business etc.
-
- Whether you are registered user or not, we really value your comments
- and feedback about this program as this will assist us in the future
- development and enhancement of The Electronic C.V.
-
- We hope that you will enjoy using this application and that you will
- feel it worth registering. In any event please accept our sincere
- thanks and best wishes for at least taking the trouble to test drive
- it.
-
-
- REGISTRATION:
-
- If you enjoy using this program or wish to distribute C.V.'s and
- resumes to potential employers then you will need to buy a registered
- copy of the program.
-
- This costs just £25 plus £2 p&p UK Sterling and for your money you
- will receive a one user licence, the latest registered version comes
- without any copyright or authoring messages within the run-time
- program and unlimited technical support.
-
- We accept cheques or money orders in UK Sterling but more
- convieniently we also accept Visa, Mastercard and Access credit cards
- so registrations can be taken over the phone or indeed faxed to us on
- 0602 609069 or +44 602 609069 if you are calling from overseas.
-
- Cheques and money orders should be made payable to;
-

-
- LICENCE INFORMATION:
-
- The Electronic C.V. has been released through the marketing concept
- known internationally as SHAREWARE. Shareware gives you the
- opportunity to test drive the software in the same way that you might
- try out a car before deciding whether to buy it or not.
-
- If you find the program would be useful to you or you want to send
- out a C.V. or resume created by it then we must ask that you purchase
- a registered version first. Our only source of income is from
- registrations, we unfortunately get no kick-back from disk vendors or
- other such outlets.
-
- Please feel free to pass on copies of this shareware program to
- friends and workmates but you must observe that all the files and
- documentation are included. You are NOT permitted to charge for the
- distribution of this program except for a nominal charge to cover the
- cost of the actual floppy disk, but in any event this should not
- exceed £5.00 UK Sterling.
-
- You are not permitted to ditribute C.V's or resumes created with The
- Electronic C.V. unless you have purchased a registered version of the
- program. A run-time program is included in this shareware version
- for your own personal playback and so that you get a full feel for
- the program before deciding whether to buy it.
-
- This program and all of its associated files remain the property of
- Bob Palmer at all times and is protected by British and European
- copyright law and by international treaty with most countries around
- the world. Violation of any of these laws and treaties could
- unfortunately result in criminal and civil action.
-
- The author can accept no responsibility for any damage caused
- through the use of this program, no matter how caused. Our source
- code is checked very carefully and tested thoroughly. All disks
- leaving our office are checked to ensure that no known virus is
- passed on.
-
-
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
-
- The Electronic C.V. will operate on any IBM PC or clone with
- VGA graphics and a hard disk. A mouse makes life easy but is not
- essential as the program can be operated from the keyboard using the
- TAB or cursor keys to move from icon to icon. SHIFT TAB works in
- reverse.
-
- The Electronic C.V. works with standard RAM under MS-DOS 3+
-
- To create your own VOC files you will need a suitable sound card
- complete with microphone. The run-time version requires no
- additional hardware as sound is played back through the standard PC
- speaker. Sound files used by The Electronic C.V. need to be in a
- standard *.SND format. A utility which converts VOC to SND has been
- included for your benefit.
-
-
- GETTING STARTED:
-
- To start creating your own Electronic C.V. type "ECV" at the DOS
- prompt.
-
-
- THE MAIN MENU:
-
- Using your mouse or keyboard select the icon (one click - left
- button) for the associated topic that you wish to enter into.
-
- To leave the program just click on the "Quit to DOS" icon and the
- Electronic C.V. will terminate ant return you to DOS or the calling
- program if you are using a menu system etc.
-
-
- PERSONAL INFORMATION:
-
- On selecting this icon you will be asked if you wish to create or
- modify the Title Screen. This is the first thing a potential
- employer will see when accessing the program via the run-time
- application.
-
- If you select "YES" to this question the title screen will be
- displayed.
-
- By clicking the cursor in the top box you will be able to type in
- your name. After typing it in we suggest you put the cursor to the
- front of your name so that you can use the Spacebar to centre it up
- and make it look good.
-
- Moving down to the second box, you can type in your address. Again
- you may wish to centre the information.
-
- The third box should contain your home telephone number.
-
- If you which to include a sound file with this screen just click on
- the "Add a Sound File" checkbox.
-
- When the screen looks the way you want click on the "Save" button.
- Your information will be saved to disk, but you can always access it
- to modify or change it whenever you want.
-
- If you selected "Add a Sound File" a Windows type filebox will be
- displayed and you will be able to select a suitable SND file.
-
- If you selected NO to the question "Do you want to create or modify
- the title screen?" you will be taken to the Personal Information
- Screen. Again you will be taken into this automatically after
- exiting from the Title Screen.
-
- Filling in this section is quite easy and requires little comment.
- Adding a sound file to this section is done in the same way as the
- Title Screen.
-
- When completed just click on SAVE or select CANCEL to dump the
- information. Either selection will return you to the Main Menu.
-
-
- EDUCATION INFORMATION:
-
- By selecting this option you will be able to input, delete or modify
- any number of education records.
-
- Initially, the screen will clear and a drop down menu facility will
- appear at the top of the screen.
-
- RECORDS HELP
-
- To ADD a new record click on the RECORDS option at the top of the
- screen and select ADD. We strongly suggest that you enter these
- records in a logical format starting with your last High School and
- then move on to "Pollies" and Universities etc.
-
- When you ADD a record it will be stored as the last entry. So by
- starting with your High School and finishing with the last
- establishment you attended, a potential employer will be able to view
- these records in a logical fashion. If by chance you return to
- college at some point your Electronic C.V. will easily be updated.
- It is not possible to save blank records.
-
- When entering information into the QUALIFICATIONS field you will
- notice that Scroll Bars appear as you progress down. When the
- information is complete it is important that you return the Scroll
- Bars to the top of the field before saving, as the run-time program
- accesses the record as it was last left.
-
- When modifying or deleting a record you will first need to find the
- record you want. This section of the program works a bit like a mini
- database in as much as you will be presented with a blank record
- form. A search pattern can be entered into any field and the search
- performed is NOT case sensitive. When located the found record will
- be displayed on your screen and can then be modified or deleted.
-
- To see how many records you currently have stored on disk please
- click on the INFORMATION menu option.
-
- When this section is complete a Click on SAVE will store the
- information or CANCEL will dump it.
-
- To exit this section just click on the EXIT menu option and you will
- be returned to the Main Menu.
-
-
-
- EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
-
- By selecting this option you will be able to input, delete or modify
- any number of employment records.
-
- Initially, the screen will clear and a drop down menu facility will
- appear at the top of the screen.
-
- RECORDS HELP
-
- To ADD a new record click on the RECORDS option at the top of the
- screen and select ADD. We strongly suggest that you enter these
- records in a logical format starting with your first job and ending
- in your current one or most recent if you are unemployed
-
- When you ADD a record it will be stored as the last entry. So by
- starting with your first job your Electronic C.V. will easily be
- updated as you get new jobs.
-
- When entering information into the DUTIES field you will notice that
- Scroll Bars appear as you progress down. When the information is
- complete it is important that you return the Scroll Bars to the top
- of the field before saving as the run-time program accesses the
- record as it was last left. It is also a good idea to include any
- vocational training you undertook in this section together with your
- reason for leaving etc.
-
- When modifying or deleting a record you will first need to find the
- record you want. This section of the program works a bit like a mini
- database in as much as you will be presented with a blank record
- form. A search pattern can be entered into any field and the search
- performed is NOT case sensitive. When located the found record will
- be displayed on your screen and can then be modified or deleted.

-
-
- FURTHER INFORMATION:
-
- In this section you have the opportunity to tell a potential employer
- all the things about yourself that could not be included elsewhere
- with the Electronic C.V. You may wish to say why you feel suited to
- a particular post and what skills and experience you can bring.
-
- Also included on this screen is an opportunity for you to tell all
- about your HOBBIES & INTERESTS. You may be involved in some
- voluntary work etc.
-
- Again you have the option of adding a sound file.
-
- When complete make sure the Scroll Bars are at the top of the
- section. Click on SAVE to store the information or alternatively
- click on CANCEL to dump it. Both options will return you to the Main
- Menu.
-
-
- REFERENCES:
-
- This section gives you the opportunity to offer two people or
- organisations as references as to your suitability for employment.
-
- The only point to watch is that you leave the Scroll Bars at the top
- of the section before saving.
-
- Clicking on SAVE will store the information while the CANCEL option
- dumps it into oblivion. Either option returns you to the Main Menu.
-
-
-
- FINISHING OFF:
-
- When you have completed inputing all of the information into your
- Electronic C.V. and QUIT to DOS you will notice that a number of
- files (*.CRD) have been created in your \ECV directory. These files
- contain all the information you have entered.
-
- Copy these files to the \ECV\MANAGER directory where the run-time
- program and files are stored. (COPY *.CRD \ECV\MANAGER)
-
- You must also ensure that all the SND sound files that your
- Electronic C.V. needs are copied into this directory as well.
-
- Changing to this directory you will then be able to view your
- Electronic C.V. as if you were a potential employer by running the
- program RESUME.COM.
-
- Registered users of The Electronic C.V. could at this point copy all
- the files from the \ECV\MANAGER directory onto a floppy disk and
- distribute the finished work.
-
- Of course you could place your Electronic C.V. on a bulletin board or
- send it to someone via Compuserve etc.
-
- That's it! Good luck with your career.
-
-
-
- CREATING SOUND FILES:
-
- Appendix I.
- If you have the necessary hardware, such as the CAT SOUND STUDIO, you
- will be able to create standard SND digitised sound files for
- inclusion with your Electronic C.V. Failing this, you can use or
- create SoundBlaster VOC or Windows WAV files. In the case of Windows
- WAV files you will simply need to rename the file so that it has an
- SND extension.
-
- When creating a sound file it is IMPORTANT that the sound is digitised
- at 22 Mhz. Not only does this frequency sound great, The Electronic
- C.V. will not operate properly with any other speed.
-
- The CONVERT program included in the \ECV\SOUND directory will convert
- VOC to SND and allow you to listen to the created file. CONVERT has a
- graphical interface and is very straight forward to use.
-
- Remember to transfer any SND files that you wish to use in your
- Electronic C.V. to the \ECV\MANAGER directory before you run the
- RESUME (run-time) program.
