- General public release of LS 4.5LJR for the Amiga, please distribute far
- and wide! This is the full source/binary package. Please pass along
- complete packages only!
-
- There is no real README with this release of LS 4.5LJR. Go read ls.doc.
- Even long time users of LS should read ls.doc as it has been updated to
- talk about all the new features and the new 2.0 pattern matching support.
- LS 4.5ljr is compatible with Amiga OS Release 2.04 (and later) ONLY!
-
- Minor flame:
- Note that my strain of ls now ends in 'LJR' instead of 'ljr' (at least in
- this README file so I can make my point :-). This is because some people
- have seen the 'l' as a '1' and started calling ls-4.1ljr, ls-4.11 JR.
- There never was, is, will be a JR version of ls released by me...
- [Flame off]
-
- Thanks to all the beta testers for this release of LS 4.5LJR.

-
- New features are many. My strain of ls is now 2.04 only.
- The change to 2.04 ONLY was done for various reasons (ranked from
- most to least important):
- 1) More robust, powerful and consistent pattern matching.
- 2) More robust and consistent date handling.
- 3) 2.0 style (local) environment variables.
- 3) Author's desire to `convince' people to upgrade to 2.04.
- 4) Smaller binary size (due to use of ROM library routines).
- Of course all the new features help offset this saving... :-)
-
- Please see the documentation in the package for complete details.
- Highlights:
- 1) wildcard support changed from simple *? matching to full
- AmigaOS style [use starburst or somesuch, if you really
- like the braindead UNIX style '*'].
- 2) user definable highlighting to entry types in the short listing.
- 3) support for hard and soft links [Please note that C= currently
- recommends that users not use soft links].
- 4) LS no longer tries to recurse into softlinks pointing to files.
- In fact, LS tries to avoid softlinks at all costs... :-) but
- now handles them without losing it's mind.
- 5) uses buffered IO for speed. LS 4.5LJR is the fastest directory
- lister I've seen on my machine.
- 6) and more, read the manual even if you are a long time user of my
- ls strain! :-)
