  4.     Even  though  the Amiga range of computers are excellent, the world
  5. PC  market  is  still dominated by IBM PC's.  So you might want to run some
  6. programs  written  for  the  IBM PC but don't want to buy another computer.
  7. This is where PC-Task comes in, it allows you to run the majority of IBM PC
  8. programs  on  your  Amiga  computer  and  hence  make use of the memory and
  9. peripherals  you already have.  The speed of PC-Task is directly related to
  10. the speed of you Amiga so when you make your Amiga faster your PC emulation
  11. becomes  faster.   No extra hardware is required, and PC-Task multitasks so
  12. you  can  continue  to run other applications.  This is the Demo version of
  13. the program.  Many features are disabled but you can boot and run software.
  14.  
  15. Getting started with demo version:-
  16.  
  17.     1. If using Kickstart 1.2/1.3 run the TDPatch1213 program.
  18.     2. Run PC-TaskDemo.
  19.     3. Insert a bootable(system) 3.5 DSDD 720K MS-DOS disk into DF0:.
  20.     4. Press the start button.
  21.     
  22.     PC-Task should now start booting into a IBM-PC......

  24. Specifying Hard Drives C and D:-
  25.  
  26.     PC-Task  allows  two  types  of  entries  for Hard Drives.  You can
  27. specify  a  Hard  Drive  file if you have set up a Hard Drive file (PC-Task
  28. Hard Drive files are compatible with bridgeboard ones).  Just give the file
  29. name  and  PC-Task  will  treat  that file just like the bridgeboard would.
  30. PC-Task  also  accepts  Amiga  partitions  as hard drives but due to MS-DOS
  31. restrictions  these  must be set up very carefully so don't try without the
  32. full  manual file to PC-Task.  If you have already set one up all you do is
  33. specify  the  partition  name(eg  DH3:).   If the entry for Hard Drive C is
  34. bootable PC-Task will boot directly from that.
  35.  
  36.     Since  writing  to  disks is not enabled with the demonstration you
  37. cannot  create a new hard drive as the MSDOS programs fdisk and format have
  38. to write to the hard drive.

  41. Not getting enough memory for you PC, try one or more the following:-
  42.  
  43.   Make a boot disk that only runs PC-Task (and TDPatch1213 if 1.2/1.3).
  44.   Select MDA instead of CGA.
  45.   Don't use Serial or Parallel.
  46.   Disconnect external disk drives.
  47.   Lower the value of "Minimum Leave Available".
  48.   Run the LeaveSlowFast program if you have a 512K Chip/512K Slow Fast.
  49.   Don't crunch the PC-Task program.

  51. Slow operation:-
  52.  
  53.     Use  the  MDA  Graphics  Adapter  which doesn't have the colors and
  54. graphics  but  it  is faster updating.  If you have have only chip and slow
  55. fast memory this makes a big difference in general speed.
  56.  
  57.     If  you must use CGA, add MAXDEPTHTWO=ON or MAXDEPTHTHREE=ON to the
  58. PC-Task  icon ToolTypes or your Shell/CLI arguments.  These keywords reduce
  59. the  number  of  colors displayed but make a large difference to speed on a
  60. machine with only chip and slow fast memory.

  63. BECOMING A REGISTERED USER

  68.     The latest version of PC-Task with:-
  69.         Floppy/HardDiskPartition/HardDiskFile writing enabled.
  70.         Printing enabled.
  71.         Optimized versions for 68020 and higher processors.
  72.  
  73.     The next major update sent to you as well as access to updates
  74.     in the future.  By major I mean if you originally receive 1.01 you
  75.     probably won't receive 1.02 (unless you specifically request it
  76.     as your update) but you will most likely receive 1.10 or higher
  77.     version as your update.

  79.     The full manual file.
  80.  
  81.     A HardDiskFile Device so you can use a Filesystem to access your
  82.     PC-Task or Bridgeboard HardDiskFile.
  83.  
  84.     A MS-DOS program that allows you to copy files from Amiga -> PC-Task.
  85.     A MS-DOS program that allows you to copy files from PC-Task -> Amiga.
  86.         A MS-DOS program to quit PC-Task.
  87.     A MS-DOS program to start the mouse driver.
