  1. First  of  all  I  like to explain the most significant difference
  2. between  the  printer  drivers,  so  you  can use the table in the
  3. buttom to find the best driver for your printer.  Please read this
  4. info!   Most  of the drivers might work on your printer, but there
  5. are great(!) differences in performance.
  6.  
  7. (1)  EpsonQPlus   Revision 5
  8.                   This driver needs a "Legal" character set (ESC-R-64)
  9.                   for printing « and ⌐; Also shadow print is available.
  10.                   White areas on graphic dumps are allways converted to
  11.                   ESC-$-n if possible.
  12.                   This printer driver uses ESC-+-n as n/360inch command
  13.  
  14. (2)  Star24Plus   Revision 5
  15.                   White areas on graphic dumps are allways converted to
  16.                   ESC-$-n if possible.
  17.                   This printer driver uses ESC-+-n as n/360inch command
  18.  
  19. (3) PanasonicPlus Revision 5
  20.                   White areas on graphic dumps are converted to
  21.                   ESC-$-n if
  22.                    a.) the white area is greater than 2inch and we're doing
  23.                       360XDPI graphic dumps
  24.                    b.) it's the white left border
  25.                    c.) ESC-$ is used wherever possible while doing
  26.                       <360XDPI graphic dumps.
  27.                   This printer driver uses ESC-+-n as n/360inch command
  28.  
  29. (4)  Oki24Plus    Revision 6
  30.                   White areas on graphic dumps are converted to
  31.                   ESC-$-n if
  32.                    a.) the white area is greater than 2inch and we're doing
  33.                       360XDPI graphic dumps
  34.                    b.) it's the white left border
  35.                    c.) ESC-$ is used wherever possible while doing
  36.                       <360XDPI graphic dumps.
  37.                   This printer driver uses ESC-[-n as n/360inch command!

  39. (5)  Nec24Plus    Revision 5
  40.                   White areas on graphic dumps are allways converted to
  41.                   ESC-$-n if possible.
  42.                   This printer driver uses FS-3-n as n/360inch command

  44. (6) Canon48Plus   Revision 7
  45.                   A BJ130 inkjet driver...

  50. Now how do you use this info:
  51.  
  52. - First look into the table and get the possible drivers for your
  53. printer. Sorry... You still have to find the fastest driver by
  54. yourself. I have asked for testers on UseNet, but nobody seems to
  55. care. Shame on you all!
  56.  
  57. - Testing should begin with the lowest driver number!  For testing
  58. extract the Test.lzh archiv with "lharc e test.lzh" and execute
  59. the resulting script with "execute test".  Every "test" archiv is
  60. specific to the printer driver, so you have to extract it
  61. everytime you switch teh driver!
  62.  
  63. - Some scripts print various text in different styles.  This
  64. gives you an easy way to find out, if the driver is the right
  65. choice.
  66.  
  67. - After this, the script prints a graphic.  The graphic is dumped
  68. using the ESC-$-n command.  If your printer get's ugly slow for
  69. this printing:  this is not your driver, except you like waiting
  70. ;-)
  71.  
  72. - Now look into you printer manual to find out, which n/360
  73. command is supported by your printer.  If your printer support
  74. both, ESC-+ and FS-3, you better choose one of the ESC-+ drivers!

  76. - in case no driver works with your printer: see the "Readme"
  77. on "Special things to note"! Perhaps I should mention, if your
  78. problem is ESC-$ related: get an old driver revision <4 wich does no
  79. ESC-$. Anyway you should contact me, so I can do a faster version
  80. for your printer ;-)

  83. more info! And if possible... send me a note/hints so I can update the
  84. list/driver ;-)
