- EdgeStar by Robert Lang, 16th November 1991.
- ~~~~~~~~
- Wb2.0 Commodity, requiring V37 or later...(my first commodity, yay !)
-
- EdgeStar is copyright Robert Lang, Edgeware 1991. It may be freely
- distributed provided this document is maintained with the executable and it
- is not being distributed in a commercial aspect at all.
-
- EdgeStar simply switches the bit that allows "star" pattern matching in DOS.
- This is a feature implemented in Wb2.0, but default as off (for some crazy
- reason).
-
- Other programs flip this bit, such as StarBurst and WildStar, but mine is a
- proper commodity, controllable from the Wb2 Commodity Exchange.
-
- Simple as that...when it is "ENABLED", you can use the * in pattern matching,
- when "DISABLED", it may not. Simply drag the icon into your WBSTARTUP drawer
- and forget it. EdgeStar will adjust its priority as per normal commodities,
- and that is its only optional feature (ie CX_PRIORITY, see the WB2
- documentation for more information).
-
- So what does using the * mean ?
-
- Try typing "dir r*" and all files starting with r are listed, ala Unix or Dos,
- rather than using the Amiga one "dir r#?" (which is still available).
-
- Note, however, that if you quote the name, ie "r*" then you must use TWO stars,
- ie "r**" since the * inside quotes is the amiga escape code.
-
- To control EdgeStar once run (either from CLI or WB), use the Commodity
- Exchange. From here, you can enable, disable, or kill it, as you can with
- all commodities. Note that if some other program "flips" the bit, then
- selecting ENABLE in the commodity exchange for EdgeStar will set the bit
- again, even if EdgeStar was already enabled.
-
- Hope you like it,
-
