  1. Short: Amiga GNU Emacs V1.26, sources
  2.  
  3. Emacs is a very powerful, but sometimes cryptic, text editor. Its basic
  4. features are similar to those of the MEmacs editor which comes with 
  5. AmigaDOS (in the Tools directory), but has numerous other facilities:
  6. - unlimited undo.
  7. - language specific editing, with automatic (re)indentation.
  8. - a dialect of lisp as extension language, leading to extreme 
  9.   reconfigurability.
  10. - abbreviations for commonly typed words.
  11. - complete on-line manual.
  12. - powerful search & replace facilities (including wildcards).
  13.  
  14. In this Amiga version, I have tried to make it easier to use with menus, 
  15. mouse, clipboard, rexx and workbench support.

  17. Since the previous release (1.25), two main features have been added:
  18. - complete process support (so you can now run compilations, shells, etc
  19. inside emacs).
  20. - workbenchification: emacs can now create icons, be run from the workbench,
  21. etc.

  23. System requirements:
  24. - AmigaDOS 2.04
  25. - At least 2MB of memory (emacs uses about 750k + memory for the files
  26.   being edited).
  27. - 2.5MB of free disk space for the binary version, 8MB for the 
  28.   source version (but you can remove some of the files once it has been
  29.   installed).
  30. - Emacs works with a 68000 (A500,A2000), but is a bit slow. It is very
  31.   pleasant to use with a 68030/25MHz ...

  36.   All the files necessary to use emacs. Has only a subset of the lisp files,
  37.   the rest may be got from a standard emacs distribution.

  53. This port was originally based on that of Mark Henning (gnuemacs
  54. v1.10), but after having made rather extensive modifications, added
  55. numerous features and ported 18.57 (and now 18.58), I decided to
  56. release it myself.
