- STATUS
-
- This AmigaVision script is hereby placed in the public domain. You may
- modify it to your hearts content, so long as the original purpose of the
- program is maintained and my name remains in the system screen.
-
- With this file, you should receive several archives which you may
- un-lharc.
-
- I am running this program on a 3 MEG Amiga 2000 with 105 Meg HD. I don't
- know the minimum RAM for this program, sorry.
-
- This program is free, so no warranty expressed or implied exists.
-
- OTHER PROGRAMS
-
- AmigaVision must be used to play this AVScript; it may be purchased from
- Commodore if it did not come with your computer. AV is not included with
- this file.
-
- EdPlayer is included with this for your convenience, and I make no claims
- on it. See its documentation for further details.
-
- RunBack is included with this for your convenience, and I make no claims
- on it. Follow its instructions on installing it and the null handler
- if you have not already done so.
-
- A sample sound player is included with this for your conveniance on which
- I make no claims; you may replace it with another if it works similarly.
-
- The above programs are necessary for using the AVScript. Also included
- is a flag pointer animation. This may be run beforehand, but is not
- necessary to use the program.
-
- DIRECTORIES
-
- You must copy all the fonts to the fonts: directory (or assign fonts: to
- this fonts directory).
-
- You need date, delete, and execute in your c: directory. They are
- available on the Workbench disk.
-
- You must make the following assignments to their proper directories in
- your setup.
-
- Copy the libraries from the edplayer:libs directory to your libs: directory.
-
- assign lib: <directory>
- assign edplayer: <directory>
- assign speech: <directory>
- assign Liberty.1: <directory containing ILBM & 8SVX>
-
- SPEECH
-
- Included with this program are some example speech sample files. You
- may or may not use them at your discretion. If you do not want to use
- them, remove the speech samples, but you must assign speech: somewhere.
- If AmigaLiberty does not find the files, it will not play them.
-
- All speech files are in IFF 8SVX format.
-
- They are named appropriately, and you may replace them with your own if
- you have a sound sampler.
-
- SCREENS
-
- The screens are in the Liberty.1:ILBM directory. They are in a variety of
- formats; just load them into an art program to see what size the program
- is expecting. You may edit/replace them at your discretion.
-
- All screens are in IFF ILBM format.
-
- All screen files must be present for the program to work.
-
- SOUNDS
-
- Non-speech sounds are in the Liberty.1:8SVX directory. You may replace
- them at your own discretion.
-
- All sounds are in IFF 8SVX format.
-
- All sound files must be present for the program to work.
-
- SONGS
-
- The songs must be named Song1 through Song4 as default. They should be
- ST MOD format. You may replace the songs at your discretion.
-
- Choose songs appropriate for the occasion. If at a science fiction
- convention, choose things like Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, etc. If
- at something like a gun show, choose differently. Be creative.
-
- All songs must be in the LIB: directory.
-
- You may change the songs' locations in the edit screen (described below).
-
- ASSORTED FILES
-
- Most of the rest of the files are in the LIB: directory, such as the
- results and semi-temporary files. They must be present in the LIB:
- directory for the program to work.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- RUNNING THROUGH THE PROGRAM
-
- The program begins with an intro screen with some music. It plays one
- of four songs randomly selected. In addition, three lines are printed
- overtop the screen in the upper-right corner.
-
- The left mouse button is always used in the program. No keyboard is
- necessary for the passerby to use the program.
-
- A click on most of the screen will proceed through the quiz/presentation.
-
- It will show an explanation screen and then 10(5) personal, then 10(5)
- economic screens with questions. A Yes, Maybe, and No box may be clicked
- to respond.
-
- Each response has a different audible response, so that you can tell how
- a person is answering without even being able to see the screen.
-
- The program tracks the answers, and shows a grid at the end along with the
- user's political position marked by an X.
-
- If the user has scored in the Libertarian sector, it will play a different
- sound and show a different screen. Replace this screen with your own
- showing a local contact number, local candidate, etc. Again, just feel
- free to change what you want, customize it, and be creative.
-
- Unless otherwise set, it will show a Choice for President screen, and then
- the list of candidates in OK (just Marrou, Bush, Clinton, & Perot). To
- change this screen, the actual script would have to be changed. The
- script is documented, so if you have even rudimentary programming schools
- it should be easy to change. (You could make it a Senate screen, etc.
- Play with the script as well as the screens.)
-
- The program will then repeat to the main attention screen after thanking
- the user.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- SYSTEM SCREEN
-
- If you click in the EXTREME far upper-left corner of the attention/intro
- screen, you will see the system screen.
-
- From here, you should be able to Continue the Presentation (aka, leave
- the system screen), Show Results, Edit Questions, and Quit the program
- completely.
-
- RESULTS
-
- Show Results will show you the results that have been taken. You may
- scroll through it with the available gadgets. Just exit it when done.
-
- You will be asked if you want to erase the results. Do so the first time
- to start fresh. The results will be maintained even after turning off
- the computer, so this is the only way to erase them. After running this
- for a day, copy the results file (ie., copy lib:results dh0:results.10.1.92)
- and erase the contents so the results from different times/places are
- not combined.
-
- When you do want to erase the results, you will be prompted for confirmal
- of the action. If you hit it by mistake, you can safely abort. If you
- are sure, click Yes.
-
- EDIT QUESTIONS
-
- There will be four lines with song playing statements, the questions,
- and a President Screen choice. A keyboard is necessary for editing!
- (This is the only place one is needed.)
-
- Edit the four song lines to change the names of the songs to be played.
- You must include the statement to play the song as well as the name.
-
- If you erase the 6th personal question, the system will switch to a 5
- economic/5 personal question system. (It will scale the results
- appropriately.)
-
- If you do not want the Presidential choice screens, enter an 'n' instead
- of 'y' in the appropriate box.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- I wrote this documentation in 15 minutes, so don't expect it to be too
- complete. (Hey, I already knew how to run it! :) )
-
- The best way to learn the system is to go through, run it, test it, just
- try it out. Enter No to all the questions (no matter how hard it hurts :) )
- to ensure that Authoritarian works, etc.
-
- Look through the script, it's documented. Change it, have fun. Modify
- it for local candidates. Change songs. Use the animated pointer before
- running it.
-
- When running it for others, click on the Liberty icon to run it rather
- than loading it. That will allow the pointer to be changed, and it
- will deactivate the right mouse button escape. (The right mouse button
- will then do nothing at all.)
-
- I _strongly_ recommend copying this to the hard drive to run it. All
- assignments must still be made. If something weird happens in your setup,
- try to see if it's something obvious (like a missing assign), and add it.
- I recommend putting the assigns for your setup in your s:user-startup
- or s:startup-sequence. If not, make an executable script containing them.
-
- Any questions? If so, I'll sure try to help. I can be found at:
-
- bsulliv@a.cs.okstate.edu
-
- Mark the subject AmigaLiberty:HELP! or some such so I can tell it from
- requests for the program.
-
- If you're in the original distribution of this (from the first LiberNet
- posting), then please respond with comments, suggestions, etc. (If you
- did not get it to work correctly with your system, give me the error
- message along with your system setup, etc.)s
