  18. REQUIREMENTS

  20. SimCity for OS/2 requires a PC Compatible computer with
  21. OS/2 2.11 or later, and a minimum of 8Mb of system
  22. memory.  12Mb or 16Mb of system memory is recommended.

  26. INSTALLATION
  27.  
  28. Follow the steps below to install SimCity for OS/2:
  29.  
  30.   1. Insert the SimCity for OS/2 disk in drive A:.
  31.  
  32.   2. Open an OS/2 windowed session and switch to the
  33.      A: drive.
  34.  
  35.   3. Run siminst.exe and follow the instructions.

  39. KNOWN PROBLEMS
  40.  
  41. SimCity has been further optimized and now runs in 2.5Mb of
  42. memory.  OS/2 2.11 has a working set of approx. 10Mb.  OS/2
  43. Warp has a working set of approx. 6Mb.  Sound support adds
  44. another 2Mb to the working set.  This comes out to be a total
  45. of 14.5Mb for OS/2 2.11 running SimCity, and 10.5Mb for Warp
  46. running SimCity.  This translates directly to a large amount
  47. of swapper activity.  In short, SimCity and OS/2 are thrashing.

  49. This is more of a problem for a game like SimCity because SimCity
  50. updates 75-80% of its memory resources (mostly bitmaps) constantly.
  51. This leads to OS/2 swapping out some bitmap memory resources so it
  52. can load in the operating system code that needs to operate on the
  53. bitmap memory resources that were just swapped out to disk!  Thus
  54. performance suffers severely.
