- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Installation
-
- Boulder-Dash consists of two parts:
-
- o BOULDER.EXE: The game itself and
- o BUILDER.EXE: the level-editor for Boulder-Dash levels.
-
- Important: You need the generic game interface GI to play Boulder-Dash!
- GIRUN.ZIP contains all files needed to install and configure GI. Please install
- and configure GI before you install, configure and run Boulder-Dash!
-
- GI.ZIP which contains the most recent version of GI. GI (and all source-code)
- is available via anonymous ftp just like Boulder-Dash. Please Install and
- Configure GI first (view GI.INF) !
-
- Note: Boulder will NOT run without GI!
-
- Graphic-Mode
-
- Boulder-Dash runs in a OS/2 Full-Screen session. It uses the 320x200 pixel mode
- with 256 colors (easiest to program). If you experience problems with this
- resolution, try re-configuring your card (especially 8514A, ATI-utltra) in
- plain DOS and run SVGA ON before starting BOULDER. But since 320x200 is a
- standard VGA-mode (not even SVGA) it should work on all VGA cards...
-
- Note: BOULDER needs the PORTIO.DLL to manipulate the VGA palette. So you must
- have:
-
- o The Boulder-directory in your LIBPATH statement (CONFIG.SYS) or
- o the current directory (.) in your LIBPATH and set the current directory to
- where Boulder lies before starting it or
- o copy the PORTIO.DLL to a location mentioned in your LIBPATH.
-
- Note: If PORTIO.DLL cannot be accessed by OS/2, you'll get a SYS0002
- message...
-

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Boulder ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Boulder Dash - The Game
-
- Note: For a description of the various objects in a Boulder-Dash level see the
- Objects-Definition in Builder-Help.
-
- Basic Idea
-
- You can play Boulder-Dash alone or with a friend as a TEAM. In Team-Mode you'll
- have to help each other, true Team-work!
-
- Your task is to eat as many diamonds as stated in the bottom-line (right of the
- green diamond). Nasty levels, dangerous ghosts and a steadily running clock
- keep trying to prevent you from completing a level.
-
- You complete a level by eating enough diamonds and entering the house(s). If
- you entered the house in time, press Button 1 or ESC to continue. You cannot
- enter the next level before you completed the one you've just been working
- on...
-
- Score
-
- While playing, your score is not displayed. But when you leave the level you'll
- see the score-table of this level (with a check in the SUCC column if you
- completed the level). Every player/team has an over-all score which is
- displayed when selecting the player/team. This team-info is kept in TEAM.DAT so
- you better not delete this file...
-
- Limitations
-
- o A maximum of 20 players/teams may be defined. If you try to define the 21'st
- player/team, the 20'th gets overwritten.
- o A maximum of 30 scores are saved per level.
- o Player/Team names are no longer than 12 characters.
- o Not all characters can be used (we had to design our own char-set...)

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Builder ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Boulder Dash - The Level Editor
-
- Boulder Dash comes along with a level design tool called BUILDER. With BUILDER
- you can create and edit new or existing levels.
-
- Note: See the Builder-Help tables for more information.
-
- Warning: When modifying an existing level, all high-score data for that level
- is lost! (Since afterwards, it's not the same level anymore...)
