  1.                 Phoenix File Recovery Utility

  8.   Installing: Receive the file PHOENIX.EXE down to your PC as a
  9.   binary file.  If you are running OS/2 1.2 or greater bring down the
  10.   file PHOENIX2.EXE instead.
  11.  
  12.   The Forum for the OS/2 version of Phoenix is called PHOENIX FORUM
  13.   on YKTVMV.  Since this is an after hours project please don't expect
  14.   any real support.
  15.  
  16.   Please make sure that while you are using Phoenix to recover a
  17.   deleted file from a disk drive that no other I/O activity is taking
  18.   place on that drive.
  19.  
  20.   The sooner you use PHOENIX after a file has been erased, the higher
  21.   the chances of recovering ANY data.
  22.  
  23.   Do not place any recovered files on the same disk drive you are
  24.   recovering from until after the recovery process is finished.
  25.  
  26.   If Phoenix fails to recover your file(s) you can still try nortons
  27.   data recover utilities if you have access to this product and if you
  28.   can reboot your system under dos ( for FAT disks only).

  31.   When recovering data from an HPFS (High Performance File System)
  32.   Drive Phoenix will take a considerable amount of time to analysis
  33.   the disk.  This process can take up to ONE HOUR for very large
  34.   disks!!!  Please be patient but also once you have analysed a HPFS
  35.   disk be aware that if you switch to a different disk all the
  36.   analysis data will be lost.  Phoenix will NOT lockup you system
  37.   During this analysis so you can continue to work on other activities
  38.   but avoid changing the data on the disk being analysis at ALL
  39.   COST.

  41.   Future Plans:

  43.    Phoenix is currently unsupported and unfunded so all changes and
  44.    updates to the product will be done after hours (as was the original
  45.    development of the product).
  46.  
  47.    I Do however plan to release future updates to improve the product
  48.    and to keep pace with changes in OS/2 ( ie 32 bit OS/2 2.0 ect.)

  50.    I am also looking a ways to improve its speed on an HPFS drive...

  53.    the PHOENIX forum.

  70.    - Added "QUICK" INITIALIZATION for HPFS Drives.  Heres how this
  71.      works:  At any time during the Loooong analysis of the
  72.      HPFS Disk you can hit the Quit button.  The analysis will
  73.      be halted but the program will not terminate.  Instead the
  74.      data gathered during the "Partial" analysis will be
  75.      displayed normally.  Such partial analysis can be useful on
  76.      large drives that have only a faction of their total space used.
  77.      If the file you where looking for was not found then you should
  78.      follow through with the complete analysis.
