- QwikSwitch 32bit for OS/2 2.x
-
- Version 2.0 - May 13, 1993

-
-
- What is it?
-
- QwikSwitch is an OS/2 hot-key and application keyboard launching utility,
- featuring point and click ease of use. It should appeal to anyone using
- OS/2 2.x, from the novice to the power user.
-
- 1. How to install it:
-
- - copy Qwik32.exe and QwikTsr.exe to a directory.
- - copy Qwikdll.dll to your LIBPATH.
- - copy Qwik32.hlp to your HELPPATH.
- - put QwikTsr.exe in your autoexec.bat
-
- 2. How to set up QwikSwitch:
- - create a program object for QwikSwitch and put it in your startup folder.
- - mark it hidden when minimized.
-
- 3. How to use QwikSwitch.
-
- QwikSwitch installs itself with pre-set entries. Minimize QwikSwitch
- and then press Ctrl+Shift+Q. This should bring up QwikSwitch itself.
- Assuming you've installed OS/2 on C:, press Ctrl+Shift+F. If you have
- a full screen session active, you'll hot key to it. If you don't have one,
- QwikSwitch will prompt you to open one.
-
- The other pre-sets are:
- Cntrl+Shift+T == To Do List
- Cntrl+Shift+D == OS/2 desktop (handy going from a full screen session
- Cntrl+Shift+W == Windowed session.
-
- Assign your most referenced applications to hot-keys as you use them. Pick
- a hot-key key from the combo box, click on an active program in the QwikSwitch
- task list, and apply it using the assign button just right of the combo-box.
-
-
- TIPS:
-
- 1. Some applications modify their titles during their use. QwikSwitch uses
- OS/2 task titles when hot keying, so if a title has been appended to, it
- won't be able to find it. Use the 'Match' spin button to limit the compare
- to the number of characters that don't change. A value of 0 compares all
- characters.
-
- 2. If an application requires input parameters (like the To Do List, etc.)
- or a different current path, click on the "Custom program startup information"
- button to fill in the correct information.
-
- 3. If it's a batch file you need to auto start. Put c:\os2\cmd.exe as the
- program to start and "/C <name of batch file to execute>" in the parameters
- entry field.
-
-
- IMPORT NOTES REGARDING THE USE OF QWIKTSR.EXE in DOS FULL SCREEN SESSIONS
-
- 4. The program QwikTsr.exe communicates with QwikSwitch from a DOS full
- screen session. It has been found to work with most programs, but if you
- find that one or more of your DOS programs no longer work correctly from
- a DOS full screen, try removing QwikTsr.exe to verify whether it is
- QwikTsr.exe that is causing the problem. For those DOS programs that cannot
- coexist with QwikTsr.exe, you can specify a separate AUTOEXEC.BAT file via
- the DOS SETTINGS for those program objects that require that QwikTsr.exe NOT be
- loaded. QwikTsr.exe may have problems while using the Novell OS/2 requestor
- with DOS support loaded.
-
- DON'T FORGET TO SAVE your choices by clicking on the 'Save' button (leftmost).
-
- NOTE: The 'Save' option has no effect in the evaluation copy.
-
- LIMITATIONS:
-
- - QwikSwitch cannot launch folders or Win-OS/2 apps, but it can hot-key between
- them.
- - QwikSwitch cannot hot-key OUT of a Windows full screen, but it can hot-key
- in and out of seamless Windows.
-
- These limitations are due to current OS/2 design constraints. A future version
- of QwikSwitch based on the WPS should overcome most of these problems.
