- PURPOSE:
- GetInfs.EXE is a little program that allows the user to launch
- INF files by simply highlighting a description of the file
- and clicking the VIEW button.
-
- WHY?:
- I found that as I added more and more OS/2 programs to my
- collection, I ended up with INF files all over the place.
- Sometimes I'd want to refer to them and it was becoming
- a hassle to search them out to view them. So I wrote this
- program to make my life easier. Once the programs are
- recorded in two TXT files, GetInfs.EXE can easily bring
- them up.
-
- SETTING UP:
- Setting up GetInfs.EXE is fairly straight forward. Create
- a directory and place all the files that came with this
- package into this subdirectory.
-
- Run the program called DSETUP.EXE. This program will create
- two text files...
-
- MYDATA.TXT - Which contains the names/descriptions of the INF
- files you want to set up.
-
- MYPATH.TXT - Which contains the corresponding paths\*.INF to
- the files listed in MYDATA.TXT
-
-
- DSETUP.EXE will ask you to provide a desription of the INF
- file. Your description can be up to 31 characters long.
- For example you could enter: OS/2 Command Reference
-
- Click the button "Accept Description" or if you want to
- redo the description click "Cancel Description".
-
- If you "Accept Description" a file dialogue window will open.
- Here you select the actual file name that goes with the
- description.
-
- The two TXT files are updated through this process. Once you
- have setup the descriptions and locations of your of your INF
- files, you can run GETINFS.EXE to launch the viewing of
- the INFs.
-
-
- RULES: Should you want to make changes to the two TXT files at a
- later time - say you want to delete an INF from your list,
- you can use any ASCII text editor. Just make sure you
- follow these rules:
-
- 1) Type the information in each file in contiguous order, no
- blank lines
- 2) Lines in MYDATA.TXT must start with an "*"
- 3) path\filenames of INF files must be enlcosed in double
- quotes, ie. " "
-
-
- DLL File:
- Included in the package is a file called VROBJ.DLL. This is
- a dynamic link library file from the VX-REXX software package
- produced by Watcom. It is the latest DLL and can replace any
- previous ones. If you are going to be using other programs
- produced with VX-REXX you can save space by moving this file
- to your C:\OS2\DLL directory (or some other directory in your
- LIBPATH path). All VX-REXX programs rely on this DLL and
- once loaded in memory the first time, speed up the loading
- of other VX-REXX applications because they address the same
- DLL.
-
- FILES INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE:
-
- GETINFS.EXE - the main program.
- DSETUP.EXE - used to enter INF information
- GETINFS.ICO - icon file for GetInfs.exe
- DSETUP.ICO - icon file for Dsetup.exe
- CDS.BMP - displays our logo in GetInfs window
