- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. The Preferences Notebook ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The preferences notebook is used to configure and customize various parts of
- Back Again/2. There are five pages in the notebook, each dealing with a
- specific subject.
-
- Each page on the notebook contains a Default and a Undo button. The Default
- button sets thae current page to its default settings i.e. what the settings
- were when the program was first installed. The Undo button undoes any changes
- that may have been made since the notebook was opened.
-
- To save the notebook settings, simply click on the 'Close' button on the bottom
- of the notebook window, or close the window from the system menu on the
- titlebar of the window. Either way will save the altered settings.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1. Unattended Backup Sets ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The Unattended page is used to setup the scheduling of backup sets. Back
- Again/2 can schedule up to eight backup sets at once. Each backup set will then
- be started at its specified time.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1.1. Enabling Unattended Backups ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- To enable unattended backups, check the 'Enable Unattended Backups' checkbox.
- When unattended backups are enabled, the backup sets listed will be backed up
- at their specified date and time.
-
- To disable unattended backups, uncheck the 'Enable Unattended Backups'
- checkbox.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1.2. Scheduled Backup Sets ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The Scheduled Sets listbox shows the backup sets which are presently loaded in
- the scheduler. There can be up to eight backup sets scheduled at any time, and
- each scheduled set will backup in turn according to its specified schedule
- mode.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1.3. Adding a Set For Backup ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Pressing the 'Add' button will bring up the add set dialog. Enter the name of
- the backup set, or select the name from the drop down list. Note that only one
- copy of the backup set can be present in the scheduler; if an attempt is made
- to add a backup set to the scheduler when that set is already listed, an error
- message will be displayed.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1.4. Removing a Set From the Scheduler ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Pressing the 'Remove' button will remove the highlighted backup set from the
- scheduler. If no set is selected, an error message will be displayed.
-
- Removing a set from the scheduler does not affect the backup set in any way.
- The scheduler simply removes it from its active backup set list.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1.5. Editing a Backup Set ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Pressing the 'Edit' button will bring up the backup mode editor for the
- hilighted backup set. This is used for altering the date and time or the
- backup mode (scheduled, timed interval, or daily) of the backup set.
-
- Note that if a set is marked for 'Normal' backup and is present in the
- scheduler, it will never be backed up since normal backup is manual invocation
- only.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2. Default Drives to Scan ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Check the drives that should be scanned for files during a backup. Only the
- drives which have been checked here will be scanned for files before a backup
- operation takes place.
-
- While this will prevent scans of unmarked drives, if a backup set defines a
- pattern explicitly for a drive that drive will always be scanned. For example,
- if only drive D: was checked for scanning but a previously defined backup set
- also had a pattern of C:*.* then drive C: would be scanned as well.
-
- The default setting is all non-removable drives attached to the system.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.3. Default Diskette Media ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- In order to enable the high speed diskette format, Back Again/2 needs to know
- what kind of diskette media will be used.
-
- Check the diskette media type for each drive that will be used as a backup
- device. Currently, high speed support is provided for drives A: and B: only.
-
- The default media is set to 'Unknown', however, pressing the default button
- will cause Back Again/2 to attempt to determine what kind of media will be used
- based on the type of diskette drive.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.4. Setting Priorities ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Back Again/2 allows the priorities for backup and restore operations to be
- altered in order to provide better performance or to allow other applications
- to run faster while a backup or restore is in progress.
-
- Move the slider for the desired operation to set the priority. At high
- priority, Back Again/2 will take priority over most other applications for the
- fastest possible backups and restores. At low priority, other applications
- will be given more system resources at the expense of the backup or restore
- operation.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.5. Error and Log File Configuration ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- As part of Back Again/2's error management system, errors and messages may be
- written to a log file with or without intervention from the user.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.5.1. Pause on Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Check the 'Pause on Errors' checkbox to pause the current operation when an
- error occurs. If this box is not checked, then the message is written to the
- logfile (if message logging is active) and the default response to the error is
- given.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.5.2. Log Errors to File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Check the 'Log Error Messages' checkbox if error and informational messages
- should be written to a log file.

-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.5.4. Use Backup Set Log ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The backup set log is used when this button is checked. The backup set log
- file is named the same as the backup set, except with a file extension of .LOG.
