  1. STRT_VDM.EXE a command line utility for starting Virtual Dos Machines(VDM)
  2. from a native DOS image.
  3.  
  4. This program is FreeWare.  It is provided as is and the author accepts
  5. no liability from the use of this p
  6.  
  7. This small executable allows you to start DOS images from the command line
  8. for backups and other applications needing a particular version of DOS.
  9. This allows you to start them from .CMD files or at an OS/2 prompt.  The
  10. program requires the presence of PM so it CANNOT be started from a RUN
  11. statement in CONFIG.SYS.
  12.  
  13. Parameters:
  14.     /Iimage Give the name of the image file here. Include the complete
  15.             path to the file and complete file name.  The image file
  16.             is created using VMDISK.EXE.  See OS/2 help on creating the
  17.             image.  Maximum of 254 characters
  18.  
  19.     /Ttitle The title for the windowed DOS box. Maximum 78 characters.
  20.  
  21.     /Ssetup Any additional DOS settings needed for the VDM to operate.
  22.             See the DOS settings for various parameters.  The parameters
  23.             must be listed as SET PARM=setting;.  Each parameter
  24.             statement must end with a semicolon ";".  Because of the
  25.             required SET before the parameter enclose the complete statement
  26.             in double quotes "" so it will be treated as one command line
  27.             option.  Maximum 510 characters.

  29. EXAMPLES:
  30.     to start an image on E drive and title the window DOS
  31.     STRT_VDM /ie:\dos5.img /tDOS
  32.  
  33.     to start the same image and title it DOS 5
  34.     STRT_VDM /Ie:\dos5.img "/TDOS 5"
  35.  
  36.     Start the same image and set the IDLE_SECONDS to zero.
  37.     STRT_VDM /IE:\DOS5.IMG "/TDOS 5" "/sSET IDLE_SECONDS=0;"

  39. NOTE:
  40.     Do not place spaces between the switches and the command.  Be
  41.     sure all additional parameters are ended with semicolons.  The
  42.     image name and title are required.  Be consistant with the name if
  43.     you plan to use this regularly.  The program creates an object in
  44.     the hidden folder.  It replaces any prior object with the same
  45.     title.  If you keep changing the title you will create multiple
  46.     hidden objects taking up disk space for their parameters.
