  4. INSTALLATION: Run INSTALL.CMD or follow the instructions below.
  5.  
  6.         1.  Copy FLXTS.EXE, FLXT.HLP, INSTALL.CMD and READ.ME to a
  7.             directory of your choice.
  8.  
  9.         2.  Drag the "program" object from "templates" (usually found
  10.             in the OS/2 system object).  The settings notebook will 
  11.             appear.
  12.  
  13.         3.  In the "Path and file name" box, enter FLXTS.EXE preceded by
  14.             the directory you copied it to.
  15.  
  16.         4.  In the "Working directory" box enter the directory you
  17.             placed the program in - or - add the FlexText directory to
  18.             the SET HELP: statement of your config.sys file. If you skip
  19.             this step, help may become disabled because the system will
  20.             be unable to find the FLXT.HLP file.
  21.  
  22.         5.  Skip to the "General" tab and enter FlexText in the "Title" entry
  23.             field.
  24.  
  25. STARTING:
  26.  
  27. FlexText can be started in one of three ways:
  28.  
  29.         1.  Double click with the mouse on FlexText's icon.
  30.  
  31.         2.  Drag and drop a text object on top of FlexText's icon.  The
  32.             program will start automatically opening the dropped file.
  33.  
  34.         3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type "FLXTS filename1 filename2 ..."
  35.             The program will begin opening all files listed on the
  36.             command line.

  39. TROUBLESHOOTING
  40.  
  41. Each page has one or more truncated edges.
  42.  
  43. - Printer/driver incompatibilities cause truncated edges.  The driver
  44. tells FlexText to print in an area of the page that is inaccessible to the
  45. printer.  The solution is to adjust the margins inward as described in
  46. section 6.2.

  49. FlexText fails to start using an XGA monitor.
  50.  
  51. - After starting FlexText, bring up the task list (ctrl-esc) and select
  52. the program.  Go to preferences under the option menu item and turn off
  53. program startup animation.  Restart the program.

  56. Program help is not available.
  57.  
  58. - Make sure that the file FLXT.HLP is either in the default directory
  59. (program settings), or can be found in the help path in the config.sys
  60. file.

  63. Columns fail to line up on printed reports.
  64.  
  65. - A mono-spaced font must be used if column alignment is necessary.
  66. Courier (included with OS/2) is a good choice.
  67.  
  68.  
  69. FlexText fails to print (after receiving the "print task complete" 
  70. message.
  71.  
  72. - Look for EPW.EXE and EPWROUT.EXE in your config.sys files.  These files 
  73. must be removed or commented (use REM).
  74.  
  75.  
  76. The program crashes when printing or the output is garbage.
  77.  
  78. - This is most likely a printer/driver problem.  If you have just
  79. installed a new driver or upgraded to a new version of OS/2, try deleting
  80. the file FLXT21.INI.  If that does not solve the problem delete the printer
  81. object and re-create a new one, boot the system and try FlexText again.  If
  82. neither of these actions solve the problem, please call customer support at
  83. the number below.

  86. Blank pages are printed or few lines appear on every other page.
  87.  
  88. - FlexText is encountering ASCII form feed characters after it has already
  89. started printing the next page.  Pick a smaller point size so that the
  90. document controls page breaks before FlexText hits the bottom of the
  91. page.
  92.
