- About the RCS and CVS ports in this tree.
-
- During 1991 and beginning of 1992, I participated in the port of RCS
- 5.6.3 to OS/2, which was mostly done by Frank Whaley. In March 1992 it
- was my task to create an OS/2 distribution and send it to the OS/2
- archive sites and to the comp.binaries.os2 group on Usenet.
- With RCS, I included a number of other tools useful in conjunction with
- RCS or required to use RCS, including diff, patch, grep and CVS. Those
- tools were all ported by myself, independently from the RCS work.
- All ports and executables were 16-bit for OS/2 1.x (and run also under
- OS/2 2.x and even under DOS, i.e. family mode applications).
-
- However, for now over a year, I did not find time to do further work on
- RCS and CVS. Now the RCS version is at 5.6.4 and CVS is at 1.3. While
- the changes in RCS are not all that important, the changes in CVS from
- 1.2 to 1.3 are substantial. Two other programmers (Lutz Grueneberg and
- Erik van Linstee) made ports of CVS 1.3 to OS/2, but both of them are
- not yet completed. RCS 5.6.4 was not yet compiled for OS/2. The other
- tools in the original distribution (grep, diff, patch) are much out of
- date too.
-
- Therefore, I have split up the original distribution and created a
- rcs563-2.zip archive containing only the RCS (and rcsfront) code, a
- cvs12-2.zip archive containing only the CVS 1.2 code and removed the
- other tools. These other tools are included in up to date, but 32-bit
- OS/2 2.x only versions here separately. I have added both CVS 1.3 ports
- as cvs13-2a.zip and cvs13-2b.zip too.
-
- Sometimes later this year I will certainly make a new RCS 5.6.4
- distribution including a final CVS 1.3 port (when I find more time to do
- this).
