  21. Note:  These drivers can be found on diskette #8 in a file
  22. called DASDDRVS.  The above drivers can be unpacked with
  23. the following command:
  24.         UNPACK A: DASDDRVS  OS2 /N:xxxxxxxx.ADD
  25.  
  26. Add the following statement in the CONFIG.SYS:
  27.         BASEDEV=xxxxxxxx.ADD
  28.  
  29. Once these steps are taken, reboot the machine to initiate
  30. the appropriate support.
  31.

  33. -------------------------
  34.  
  35. Following are a number of notes about usage, and
  36. about potential compatibility problems with the
  37. microcode levels on various adapters and devices.
  38.  
  39.  Adapter:  All Adaptec adapters
  40.  Note:     SCSI hard disks must be configured as SCSI target
  41.            ID 0 or 1 to be able to start up from that hard
  42.            disk.
  43.  
  44.  Drive:    IBM 0661 - 320MB SCSI
  45.  Note:     Adapter BIOS will not recognize the drive as
  46.            Target 0 or 1 (Drives 80, 81).  For OS/2 2.0, the
  47.            drive can be used as a non-startup drive.
  48.  
  49.  Adapter:  Adaptec AHA-174x
  50.  Drive:    IBM WDS-3180 - 80MB SCSI, IBM WDS-3160
  51.            - 160MB SCSI
  52.  Note:     Adapter will not recognize these drives when
  53.            configured in 'STANDARD MODE' (AHA-154x
  54.            emulation).  Instead, the AHA-174x adapter should
  55.            be configured in 'ENHANCED MODE'. This mode is
  56.            supported by the OS/2 2.0 drivers, and the
  57.            problem does not occur when the adapter is
  58.            operating in enhanced mode.
  59.  
  60.  Adapter:  Future Domain TMC-850/860/875/885 w/BIOS revision
  61.            level 7.0.
  62.            Future Domain TMC-1660/1670/1680 w/BIOS revision
  63.            level 2.0.
  64.  System:   IBM Models 35 and 40 when the Future Domain
  65.            adapter is controlling the startup diskette.
  66.  Note:     Will produce the message, "Disk read error has
  67.            occurred" when you attempt to start the
  68.            Installation diskette.
  69.            Contact Future Domain for a free BIOS upgrade.
  70.  
  71. AMI SCSI Adapters
  72.  
  73.  Symptom:
  74.          AMI "Fast Disk" and AMI "Fast Disk II" SCSI
  75.          adapters are incorrectly recognized as Adaptec
  76.          adapters.
  77.  Problem:
  78.          At the final restart after the installation is
  79.          complete, delete from the CONFIG.SYS file, any
  80.          line with "BASEDEV=AHA1xxx.ADD" (where "x" can
  81.          be any character). Ensure the line,
  82.          "BASEDEV=IBMINT13.I13," appears in the CONFIG.SYS
  83.          file.

  85.  
  86. Problems with Always IN2000 SCSI adapter
  87.  
  88.          Internal Processing Error.
  89.          Symptoms of the problem are varied, but the most
  90.          common is an FDISK error on the second diskette.
  91.  Problem:
  92.          Bios adapter with bad bios.  Bios level of 3.06A
  93.          or 3.20 should be upgraded.  The current BIOS level
  94.          is VCN:1-02 and works with OS/2 v2.0.
  95.  Resolution:
  96.          Upgrade to current BIOS level of VCN:1-02.  Also,
  97.          Always IN 2000 SCSI Host Adapters may require an
  98.          EPROM upgrade from Always for $20 to operate with
  99.        V2.0. The revision level should be 2.5-2.7.
  100.          Always suggests installing the EPROMS and
  101.          re-formatting the drive - seem to be some problems
  102.          installing over DOS partitions.  Always can be
  103.          reached at 818-597-9595.

  105.  Bernoulli Boxes
  106.  
  107.  Notes:
  108.         44 and 89MB drives will work if connected to any
  109.         other SCSI card other than Bernoulli's own card.
  110.         The drive will work as a large diskette and will be
  111.         non-bootable.
  112.  
  113.  PROCOMM+ SCSI MCA adapters do not work
  114.  
  115.  Resolution:
  116.          Contact PROCOMM for details on OS/2 support.
  117.  
  118.  Slow SCSI support or missing icons
  119.  
  120.  Symptom:
  121.          Slow hard drive speeds and possibly no icons
  122.          appearing.  Other data corruption possible.
  123.  Problem:
  124.          Hard drive and adapter card settings not
  125.          correctly matched.
  126.  Resolution:
  127.          Ensure that hard drive and card are matched in
  128.          their settings of SYNCH and ASYNCH mode.
  129.  
  130.  IBM 16-bit SCSI cards(early versions)
  131.  
  132.          Early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters
  133.          may experience problems and report erroneously that
  134.          the device is not functioning.
  135.  Resolution:
  136.          Replace SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.
  137.  
  138.  Quantam Plus Hardcard
  139.  
  140.  Symptom:
  141.          Numerous failures under 1.3 and 2.0.
  142.  Problem:
  143.          Microcode lower than 2.6 will cause numerous
  144.          failures under 2.0.  Also, drive cannot be second
  145.          disk if installation will take place on the hard
  146.          card drive.
  147.  Resolution:
  148.          Call Quantum about EPROM upgrades.
  149.  
  150. Other SCSI hints
  151. ----------------
  152. Some SCSI card have jumper pins which can be set to either
  153. Synchronous or Asynchronous mode. There have been noted
  154. problems such as no icons appearing or slow hard disk
  155. performance. This can be attributed to the SCSI card and
  156. hard disk not being set to the same asynch or synch
  157. settings. Either way, they must match. Be sure these are set
  158. properly.
  159.  
  160. The early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters may
  161. experience problems and report erroneously that the device
  162. is not functioning.  This can be corrected by replacing the
  163. SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.
