  6. WHAT IS TOPICS?
  7. --------------

  9. TOPICS is a program that allows you to store information you've gleaned
  10. from reading conference mail in e-mail networks like Fidonet or online
  11. services like Compuserve.
  12.  
  13. These e-mail resources contain tons of valuable information and when
  14. reading that information it would be really nice to be able to somehow
  15. store bits of it for later referral. TOPICS offers a convenient and
  16. easy way to accomplish this.

  18. Any text that can be copied to the OS/2 clipboard can be dumped under
  19. a topic in TOPICS. So while reading your e-mail in a message reader
  20. like FrontDoor's Editor, Golden Compass, or any other message editor
  21. that runs in an OS/2 window you can have TOPICS sitting on your
  22. desktop ready to save and classify your information.

  24. The steps to doing this are outlined in the online Help provided
  25. with TOPICS.

  27. INSTALLING TOPICS:

  30. Place all the files that came with the TOPICS package in its own
  31. subdirectory. Included in the package is a file called VROBJ.DLL.
  32. This is a dynamic link library file required by all programs
  33. written with VX-REXX. Place this file in a subdirectory pointed to
  34. in your LIBPATH statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. A convenient place
  35. to move this file to is C:\OS2\DLL. This way all your VX-REXX programs
  36. can make use of this one DLL file.

  38. Included in the package is an icon for TOPICS.EXE. You can use this
  39. icon when setting up TOPICS.

  41. RUNNING TOPICS:
  42. --------------

  44. Double click on TOPICS.EXE and away you go. The first thing you should
  45. do is view the sample topic that comes with TOPICS. Click on the
  46. topic and then click on View Topic. This message will show you a sample
  47. of what a topic file looks like and will direct you to read the
  48. online help before proceeding.

  50. The DEMO VERSION of TOPICS is restricted to only 5 topics. But this
  51. should give you a real feel for how TOPICS works and in itself would
  52. be useful if you only wanted to catalog 5 topics. Most users will find
  53. that they'll want far more than just 5 topics. TOPICS can hold up to
  54. 999 different topics that you set up and is limited really only by
  55. the disk space you have. Each topic file is stored in the directory
  56. you've install TOPICS.

  61. TOPICS is being introduced at an introductory price of only $ 20.00 US
  62. until December 15th, 1993. After that, the price goes up to its
  63. regular $ 30US.
