  2. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Installing the Elite-IMS Server ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  4. BEFORE YOU BEGIN - IMPORTANT! 
  5.  
  6. If planning to run WIN-OS/2 or other DOS sessions while running the Elite-IMS 
  7. Server, make the following changes in the "DOS Settings" for each DOS session 
  8. you plan to run: 
  9.  
  10.                                IDLE_SENSITIVITY=1
  11.  
  12. Installation Instructions 
  13.  
  14.  1. From the OS/2 2.0 Workplace Shell(WPS), open either a full-screen or 
  15.     windowed OS/2 command prompt. 
  16.  
  17.  2. Create the directory structure on your hard disk, as shown below. 
  18.  
  19.     Where "Filedir n", would be a subdirectory containing like files. 
  20.  
  21.     Examples: 
  22.  
  23.                                Directory   File types
  24.  
  25.                              OS2APPS - OS/2 Applications
  26.                               OS2UTILS - OS/2 Utilites
  27.                              DOSAPPS - DOS Applications
  28.  
  29.     NOTE: This file directory structure is not required, but can provide the 
  30.     System Administrator with a more manageable system environment. 
  31.  
  32.  3. Copy the self-extracting file "SERVER.EXE" into the C:\ELITEIMS 
  33.     subdirectory on the by typing the following:. 
  34.  
  35.                           copy SERVER.EXE C:\ELITEIMS <cr>
  36.  
  37.  4. Go to the ELITEIMS subdirectory by typing: 
  38.  
  39.                                  cd C:\ELITEIMS <cr>
  40.  
  41.  5. Unarchive the Elite-IMS Server files by typing the following: 
  42.  
  43.                                    SERVER.EXE <cr>
  44.  
  45.  6. The three programs:  buildfor.exe, buildinf.exe, and buildreg.exe, must be 
  46.     run to properly initialize the default system configuration. Failure to run 
  47.     these programs will result in improper system operation!  Run the programs 
  48.     by typing the following while in the "C:\ELITEIMS" subdirectory: 
  49.  
  50.                                   buildfor.exe <cr>
  51.                                   buildinf.exe <cr>
  52.                                   buildreg.exe <cr>
  53.  
  54.  7. Return to the OS/2 Workplace Shell(WPS), and create a new folder with the 
  55.     title "Elite-IMS Server". 
  56.  
  57.     NOTE: See the OS/2 Command Reference for more information on creating 
  58.     folders. 
  59.  
  60.  8. Add the following programs to the Elite-IMS folder: 
  61.

  64.                          eliteims.inf - Elite-IMS Reference*
  65.                              filemgr.exe - File Manager
  66.                              formgr.exe - Forum Manager
  67.                            infomgr.exe - Potpourri Manager
  68.                              mailmgr.exe - Mail Manager
  69.                             pmtalk.exe - PM Talk Manager
  70.                             portmgr.exe - System Manager
  71.                        submgr.exe - Subscription/User Manager
  72.  
  73.     NOTE: To install the Elite-IMS Reference, make sure that the following 
  74.     parameters are entered into the program settings: 
  75.  
  76.                            Path and file name:    VIEW.EXE
  77.                        Parameters:    C:\ELITEIMS\ELITEIMS.INF
  78.                          Working Directory:     C:\ELITEIMS
  79.  
  80.     NOTE:  If you are unsure of how to change program settings, consult the 
  81.     OS/2 Master Help utility, or the OS/2 Command Reference for detailed 
  82.     information on program settings. 
  83.  
  84.  9. Create a startup.cmd file in the root directory of your boot drive(if one 
  85.     doesn't already exist), and add the following line to the startup.cmd file: 
  86.  
  87.                           DETACH C:\ELITEIMS\TALKMGR.EXE n,
  88.  
  89.     Where "n" equals the total number of ports to be supported. 
  90.  
  91.     Example: On an 8-user system, if "n" were set to 8, only 7 lines available 
  92.     for remote users(1 line would be allocated to PM Talk). The solution is to 
  93.     make the command statement in the "startup.cmd" file reflect a larger 
  94.     number of ports than are actually available.  If "n" were set to 10, 2 PM 
  95.     Talk sessions could be run concurrently, allowing the system manager to 
  96.     "login" to the Talk Channel as himself or by using an "alias" handle, and 
  97.     the system would still be capable of supporting 8 remote users. 
  98.  
  99.     NOTE: TALKMGR.EXE may also be started from an OS/2 command line by typing 
  100.     the command string, as noted above. 
  101.  
  102.     To stop TALKMGR.EXE from an OS/2 command line, type the following: 
  103.  
  104.                                   KILLTALK.EXE <cr>
  105.  
  106. 10. If running a multiline system, follow the hardware manufacturers' 
  107.     instructions for proper installation and configuration of multi-port 
  108.     hardware and software. 
  109.  
  110. 11. Configure all serial ports/modems (see System Manager in the Elite-IMS 
  111.     On-line Reference). 
  112.  
  113. 12. Shutdown and restart the system to enable any changes in the config.sys and 
  114.     startup.cmd files to take effect. 
  115.  
  116. 13. Tell Elite-IMS where all of its resources are located by setting the system 
  117.     data paths. 
  118.  
  119.     a. Start the System Manager. 
  120.     b. Select CONTROL-DATA PATHS from the application menu.  The "Data Paths" 
  121.        screen will open. 
  122.     c. Enter the full path name for each of the system areas. 
  123.     d. Select "OK" to accept the data paths as entered or "Cancel" to exit 
  124.        without saving the settings. 
  125.     e. You may now begin to build your system. 
  126.

  131. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Installing the Elite-IMS Client Interface ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  132.  
  133. Installation of the Elite-IMS Client Interface is a relatively simple 
  134. procedure. Follow the steps given below to insure proper installation of the 
  135. software.

  139.  1. Create a directory on your hard disk named: "C:\ELITE". 
  140.  
  141.  2. Copy the self-extracting file "CLIENT.EXE" into the C:\ELITE subdirectory 
  142.     by typing: 
  143.  
  144.                             copy CLIENT.EXE C:\ELITE <cr>
  145.  
  146.  3. Go to the C:\ELITE subdirectory by typing: 
  147.  
  148.                                   cd C:\ELITE <cr>
  149.  
  150.  4. Unarchive the file by typing: 
  151.  
  152.                                    CLIENT.EXE <cr>
  153.  
  154.  5. Start a Windows or WIN-OS/2 session, and run FILE-NEW, PROGRAM ITEM from 
  155.     the Program Manager to add the file "ELITE.EXE" to a Program Manager group. 
  156.  
  157.     a. Description:     Elite-IMS Client 
  158.     b. Command Line:   C:\ELITE\ELITE.EXE

  160.        NOTE: If you are not sure of how to do this, check the Windows or 
  161.        WIN-OS/2 Online Help utility for details.

  163.  6. "Double-click" on the newly added icon, to start the program. 
  164.  
  165.  7. Refer to the Elite-IMS Client Interface On-line Help facility, for more 
  166.     details on setting up the Elite-IMS Client Interface for proper operation.
