- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Installing the Elite-IMS Server ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- BEFORE YOU BEGIN - IMPORTANT!
-
- If planning to run WIN-OS/2 or other DOS sessions while running the Elite-IMS
- Server, make the following changes in the "DOS Settings" for each DOS session
- you plan to run:
-
- IDLE_SENSITIVITY=1
-
- Installation Instructions
-
- 1. From the OS/2 2.0 Workplace Shell(WPS), open either a full-screen or
- windowed OS/2 command prompt.
-
- 2. Create the directory structure on your hard disk, as shown below.
-
- Where "Filedir n", would be a subdirectory containing like files.
-
- Examples:
-
- Directory File types
-
- OS2APPS - OS/2 Applications
- OS2UTILS - OS/2 Utilites
- DOSAPPS - DOS Applications
-
- NOTE: This file directory structure is not required, but can provide the
- System Administrator with a more manageable system environment.
-
- 3. Copy the self-extracting file "SERVER.EXE" into the C:\ELITEIMS
- subdirectory on the by typing the following:.
-
- copy SERVER.EXE C:\ELITEIMS <cr>
-
- 4. Go to the ELITEIMS subdirectory by typing:
-
- cd C:\ELITEIMS <cr>
-
- 5. Unarchive the Elite-IMS Server files by typing the following:
-
- SERVER.EXE <cr>
-
- 6. The three programs: buildfor.exe, buildinf.exe, and buildreg.exe, must be
- run to properly initialize the default system configuration. Failure to run
- these programs will result in improper system operation! Run the programs
- by typing the following while in the "C:\ELITEIMS" subdirectory:
-
- buildfor.exe <cr>
- buildinf.exe <cr>
- buildreg.exe <cr>
-
- 7. Return to the OS/2 Workplace Shell(WPS), and create a new folder with the
- title "Elite-IMS Server".
-
- NOTE: See the OS/2 Command Reference for more information on creating
- folders.
-
- 8. Add the following programs to the Elite-IMS folder:
-
- Filename Description
-
- eliteims.inf - Elite-IMS Reference*
- filemgr.exe - File Manager
- formgr.exe - Forum Manager
- infomgr.exe - Potpourri Manager
- mailmgr.exe - Mail Manager
- pmtalk.exe - PM Talk Manager
- portmgr.exe - System Manager
- submgr.exe - Subscription/User Manager
-
- NOTE: To install the Elite-IMS Reference, make sure that the following
- parameters are entered into the program settings:
-
- Path and file name: VIEW.EXE
- Parameters: C:\ELITEIMS\ELITEIMS.INF
- Working Directory: C:\ELITEIMS
-
- NOTE: If you are unsure of how to change program settings, consult the
- OS/2 Master Help utility, or the OS/2 Command Reference for detailed
- information on program settings.
-
- 9. Create a startup.cmd file in the root directory of your boot drive(if one
- doesn't already exist), and add the following line to the startup.cmd file:
-
- DETACH C:\ELITEIMS\TALKMGR.EXE n,
-
- Where "n" equals the total number of ports to be supported.
-
- Example: On an 8-user system, if "n" were set to 8, only 7 lines available
- for remote users(1 line would be allocated to PM Talk). The solution is to
- make the command statement in the "startup.cmd" file reflect a larger
- number of ports than are actually available. If "n" were set to 10, 2 PM
- Talk sessions could be run concurrently, allowing the system manager to
- "login" to the Talk Channel as himself or by using an "alias" handle, and
- the system would still be capable of supporting 8 remote users.
-
- NOTE: TALKMGR.EXE may also be started from an OS/2 command line by typing
- the command string, as noted above.
-
- To stop TALKMGR.EXE from an OS/2 command line, type the following:
-
- KILLTALK.EXE <cr>
-
- 10. If running a multiline system, follow the hardware manufacturers'
- instructions for proper installation and configuration of multi-port
- hardware and software.
-
- 11. Configure all serial ports/modems (see System Manager in the Elite-IMS
- On-line Reference).
-
- 12. Shutdown and restart the system to enable any changes in the config.sys and
- startup.cmd files to take effect.
-
- 13. Tell Elite-IMS where all of its resources are located by setting the system
- data paths.
-
- a. Start the System Manager.
- b. Select CONTROL-DATA PATHS from the application menu. The "Data Paths"
- screen will open.
- c. Enter the full path name for each of the system areas.
- d. Select "OK" to accept the data paths as entered or "Cancel" to exit
- without saving the settings.
- e. You may now begin to build your system.
-
- NOTE: For more details on DATA PATHS, see System Manager, in the Elite-IMS
- On-line Reference.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Installing the Elite-IMS Client Interface ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
