- Welcome to the Network PC Companion CD.
- =======================================
- IMPORTANT:- If you are running Network PC on anything other than
- Windows 95 you will struggle with the contents of this CD. Although
- Network PC will run under a DOS environment we have chosen only to
- support it under Windows 95 as this provides long file name support
- and multitasking, both of which we consider to be essential to using
- an Amiga with a PC. We make no apologies for this stance as we
- consider Windows 95, (although bloated, slow, resource hungry and
- prone to crashing,) to be the best available PC operating system for
- the home user. NT, whilst being more stable is far to complex for
- the average home user to run and maintain.
-
- This CD contains the Network PC Set-up Installations for both the
- Amiga and the PC. The Windows 95 version of the Amiga Emulator.
- Tools and Utilities for the Amiga and PC to either aid with the use
- of Amiga files on the PC and vice versa (these consist of mainly
- conversion tools,) or useful tools for both machines. Most of the
- Amiga Utilities will require installing on you hard drive.
-
- This menu system will allow you to install and run both the Network
- PC Server for the PC and the Amiga Emulator. We have created a simple
- front end menu system for the Amiga Emulator called 'WinUAE_Go'.
-
- Network PC.
- ===========
-
- Network PC consists of a simple DOS server on the PC end and an
- Amiga filesystem. This provides the Amiga with the ability to read
- and write to any of the PC drives. It is not possible to access the
- Amiga from the PC.
- The transfer of data is completed through the cable supplied with
- Network PC via the parallel ports, providing a fast and stable link.
-
- To install the software use either the disks provided with Network
- PC or this CD-ROM. If you have previously installed on either the
- Amiga or PC then please re-install using this CD as this contains the
- latest version of the software. On the Amiga side we have changed
- the default setting for packet errors to NOT provide the RETRY
- requester. Thus the Amiga may appear to have stalled during copying
- a large quantity of files. This will be whilst it retries to send
- lost packets. It will continue when it is satisfied that all files
- have been sent correctly. Previously it would have put up a requester
- after 3 retries. This was annoying if you wished to transfer large
- quantities of data unattended. If you wish to re-enable this feature
- please use the NetPC Config program provided in the Network PC drawer
- on the Amiga.
-
- Amiga Emulator for Windows 95.
- ==============================
-
- The Amiga Emulator for Windows 95 is a fantastic emulation of the
- Amiga 500 (no AGA yet.) It can be run either full screen or in a
- window on Windows 95. Our front end menu system will allow you to
- set-up most of the key features of the emulation from a comforting
- Windows 95 interface and then run the emulation.
-
- This version of the emulation allows the setting up of a drawer on
- the PC drive as an Amiga Hard Drive. We have been able to copy our
- Amiga 4000 HD to the PC with Network PC and boot the Amiga Emulation
- from this drawer as it's boot drive. The PC compact disc can be
- set-up as a read only drive and used to install software such as
- Personal Paint 7.1 to the PC.
-
- One key element of the emulation is however missing from our set-up.
- The Amiga ROM is required for the emulation to work successfully. We
- have not included this as it is inside your Amiga and a copy can be
- removed with the 'transrom' utility provided. Read the text file with
- the 'transrom' program and transfer the file to the same place as you
- have installed the Amiga Emulator.
-
- The WinUAE_Go program requires very little set-up and will remember
- your settings between sessions. For a quick start set-up the
- following items.
-
- 1. Filename of the Emulator, use the 'browse' to choose uae020.exe
- 2. Filename of the kickstart rom image, again use the 'browse'.
- 3. Set the video resolution required 640 x 400 is a good start.
- 4. Set the required memory settings for each type of memory.
- 5. Switch to the 'Floppy' tab and select an 'adf' file on the CD.
-
- Press the 'Start' button and the emulator will load and run which
- ever floppy disk you pointed it at from the CD. If you wish to run
- the emulator from Workbench on a Hard Disk then copy you hard disk
- from the Amiga to a drawer on the PC and point the WinUAE_Go at this
- drawer as 'Workbench' on the hard drive settings tab. Some changes to
- startup sequences and user startups may be required to get this work
- successfully.
-
- Please ensure you fully read the WinUAE documentation installed with
- the emulator. We have also included on the CD an early version of
- WinUAE including Picasso 96 support and a GUI included in the
- executable of WinUAE.
