  5. Microsoft¿ Internet Explorer is a World Wide Web (WWW) browser for the 
  6. Macintosh. The WWW is the fastest growing component of the Internet 
  7. today and the first to display styled text and graphics. In order to use 
  8. a WWW browser, you will need a modem or network access, access to the 
  9. Internet, and software that enables your computer to communicate with 
  10. the Internet.

  45. New and improved features in 2.1

  47. HTML and Multimedia Enhancements
  48. WWW pages look better than ever with new support for frames including 
  49. floating frames, table borders, and forms submitted using the Mailto 
  50. tag. In addition, Apple QuickTime VR and enhanced GIF animation support 
  51. make WWW pages more fun and interesting.

  53. Enhanced History and Favorites lists
  54. Managing your History and Favorites items has never been easier. Each 
  55. item now contains name, URL, comment, first visited, and last visited 
  56. information along with protocol icons that make it easy for you to 
  57. identify Web, FTP, and local sites. You can now create a favorite item 
  58. by dragging a History item to the Favorites window. History items are 
  59. automatically sorted by date to help you stay organized. The Favorites 
  60. window automatically saves its contents including the state of folders, 
  61. when the window is closed.

  63. Live Scrolling
  64. Live scrolling gives you faster access to the text on a WWW page by 
  65. letting you scroll though a document while images are being downloaded.

  67. Improved Performance
  68. Performance enhancements let you use your time more efficiently. An 
  69. improved status bar displays the size and download progress of accessed 
  70. files so that you can gauge your waiting time. The Cache folder now uses 
  71. the last-accessed date on the stored files so that previously viewed 
  72. files and graphics will display much faster.

  74. Expanded Customization
  75. Expanded customization options give you greater control over page 
  76. display and the Cache folder. The Web Content tab in the Options dialog 
  77. box lets you disable frames, plug-ins, and page-specified fonts, while 
  78. new options let you control default font size and font encoding. You can 
  79. also use the Advanced tab in the Options dialog box to change the name 
  80. and location of your Cache folder.

  82. Easier to Use
  83. We've renamed some tabs and improved layout options to give you quick 
  84. and easy access to frequently-used options. Drag and drop support now 
  85. includes Drop Launch for all file types supported by Internet Explorer.

  88. Internet Explorer works with the language kits you have to display pages 
  89. that require different character sets. This includes double-byte 
  90. character support for languages such as Japanese.

  93. Support for NT authentication allows better integration with NT 
  94. networks.

  99. Frames
  100. You can view the source of individual frames and print their contents. 
  101. To view the source, hold down the mouse button over the frame, choose 
  102. View Source. To print the frame, click inside the frame, and choose 
  103. Print from the File menu.

  105. Internet Config settings
  106. Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) contain different protocols such as 
  107. ftp, mailto, news, telnet, and http, which determine the type of program 
  108. a browser will use to access a link. While Internet Explorer supports 
  109. most URLs, you may prefer to use a different program such as your 
  110. favorite mail or newsreader. Internet Explorer will use the helper 
  111. application you've specified in your Internet Config helper applications 
  112. settings. For instructions on how you can add, delete, or change your 
  113. helper applications, refer to "To use Internet Config to set options" in 
  114. the online Help.

  116. Laser Writer driver 7.2
  117. Transparent GIF's may not print correctly with Laser Writer driver 7.2. 
  118. Users should upgrade their printer driver.

  120. Plug-Ins and 2.0 Upgrades
  121. By default, Internet Explorer 2.1 has plug-ins turned off. To enable 
  122. plug-ins, choose Options from the Edit menu. Click the Web Content tab 
  123. and select the Load Plug-in Objects check box.

  125. QuickTime PowerPlug
  126. If you have a PowerPC and you have QuickTime installed, Internet Explorer requires that the QuickTime PowerPlug extension be installed in your Extensions folder in your System folder. QuickTime extensions are available for download from http://quicktime.apple.com.
