Transcription: An important piece of equipment used in working with payloads is the remote manipulator system or RMS. The Canadian built RMS is used for payload deployment, retrieval, special handling operations and orbiter servicing activities. Designed like a human arm, the 50 foot long mechanical arm has shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. The RMS can be operated either manually or automatically to move objects in and out of the cargo.
