Transcription: At the end of the mission, the cargo bay doors are closed and the OMS engines are fired to slow down the shuttle's velocity in preparation for atmospheric entry. Thirty minutes before touchdown, when the shuttle enters the atmosphere, a 12-minute communications blackout occurs caused from the intense heat and air friction of reentry. Onboard computers control the orbiter's flight at this point. After blackout, radio electronic systems guide landing.
