Transcription: After separation of the external tank, the shuttle's Orbital Maneuvering System engines, or OMS engines, fire to put the orbiter in a low elliptical orbit. At this point, the orbiter is flying upside down in relation to Earth. Forty-five minutes after launch, the OMS engines fire again to push the vehicle into its final orbit, some 160 miles above Earth.
