Transcription: The shuttle's 35th mission was the first voyage dedicated to a single scientific discipline, astronomy. Located in the shuttle's payload bay were four telescopes that would help study ultraviolet light and X-rays emitted from distant stars and galaxies. By studying these emissions, researchers were able to gather much clearer data than was possible from telescopes situated on Earth. It is hoped that the information obtained will give scientists a better understanding of intense magnetic fields and other high energy events, those critical to a more profound understanding of the universe.
