  2. Here is some important information about the
  3. disk optimizer "ReOrg V2.33":
  4.  
  5. - DO READ the documentation "ReOrg.doc" ! Although most
  6.   functions of "ReOrg" are quite "intuitive" and although
  7.   ReOrg has an online help facility, there are several
  8.   important hints in the documentation !
  9.  
  10. - BEFORE STARTING ReOrg BE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP OF
  11.   YOUR HARDDISK !
  12.   I really mean it ! There have been some problems with
  13.   ReOrg V2.1/V2.3 and some (a few) harddisk controllers. Although
  14.   all bugs and problems I know have been solved in ReOrg V2.33,
  15.   there is still a (slight) chance that ReOrg destroys
  16.   the data on your harddisk. If you do not have a backup
  17.   available in that case, THAT IS YOUR OWN FAULT --- especially
  18.   if you used ReOrg on your harddisk for the first time !
  19.   
  20. - For those of you who have already been using ReOrg V2.1:
  21.   - Please delete all old settings files (ReOrg.prefs) !
  22.     Altough ReOrg V2.33 can still read all old settings files,
  23.     I recommend you use the new built-in settings first,
  24.     because some default options have changed from V2.1 to
  25.     V2.33 !
  26.   - There is one important change for the option
  27.     "Read drive geometry":
  28.     - THE OPTION "Read drive geometry" SHOULD ALWAYS BE
  29.       SWITCHED OFF, EVEN IF YOU ARE USING HD-DISKS IN
  30.       COMMODORE HD DISK DRIVES. This option is now only
  31.       needed for "special" disk drives with variable
  32.       formats, e.g. on the SCSI bus (at this time, I do not
  33.       think that such drives already exist). ReOrg
  34.       automatically adjusts itself to HD-disks inserted
  35.       in Commodore HD disk drives even if the option
  36.       "Read disk geometry" is switched off.

  39. - IMPORTANT ! Recommended option settings:
  40.  
  41.   - Write verify:
  42.     - for floppy disks:    >On< or >Off<  (choose by yourself)
  43.     - for harddisks:       >Off< !!! (Verify does not make much
  44.                                       sense for harddisks)
  45.   
  46.   - Format:
  47.     - floppy disks in 2-disk-mode: >All tracks< for a new disk
  48.                                    >On< for a pre-formatted disk
  49.     - floppy disks in 1-disk-mode: >On< (is faster than >Off<)                              
  50.     - harddisks (1-disk-mode):     >Off< !!! (Otherwise you might
  51.                                               get I/O errors)

  53.   - Read drive geometry:        >Off< !!! (or your machine might crash)
  54.   
  55.   - Update disk date:           >On< !!! (or your machine might crash)
