We can format the partition using FAT, NTFS, we can convert to NTFS, or we can leave current file system intact. The FAT, or File Allocation Table, file system is the file system that DOS uses. This is its only advantage. If we use a disk format other than NTFS, which is Windows NT's proprietary file system, we will lose most of the security options that NT offers and server performance will suffer as well.
