- JAPANESE TRANSLATION PROGRAM VERSION 1.0
-
- By Chris Rusanowski
-
- This is a simple program that can be used to translate common english
- and romaji. Some of the translations are not quite accurate. It is still
- very rough in its first version, but works much better than I thought. I
- am donating this version to the public. When I have learned more about
- programming, I plan to make a few changes. These are still very far off,
- but some things I would like to eventually do:
-
- Change data file to speed disk access
- Add graphical interface with mouse
- Add simple Katakana graphics (or Hiragana)
- A sentence parser for phrases and files
- A larger data file
- Sound for rough pronounciation of japanese
- fix all the darned bugs!!!!
-
- I appreciate any comments you might have about the program, gripes,
- complaints, or whatever. I can be reached at my e-mail address below. The
- code is written in Quick Basic.
-
- PS: You can create as many data files as you want and work in other
- languages besides japanese. If I ever study another language, I will
- be sure to include it also.
-
- Enjoy!

- Disclaimer:
- This file has been released to the public as freeware. There is
- no fees involved in its use and this is the complete program. The
- source code is not going to be released because I hope to update the
- program and release it as official shareware in the future.
-
- Installation:
- Copy the ZIP file, TRANS10.ZIP to a directory to install the program
- to. Unzip the file, this will take about 140 K. Run the program by
- typing MASTER.
-
- Creating new database:
- Choose the option from the main menu to change the current database.
- Enter a new filename. If the file does not exist, the program will
- create it.
-
- Working with text files:
- The program can translate text files that have already been entered.
- The translation is on a word by word basis, no sentence structure. If
- the file is not created yet the program will give an error and quit.
- Future versions may correct this problem and allow onscreen file
- editing.
-
- The text files should be entered as a series of phrases. Words that
- should be kept together in the translation are entered with hyphens
- separating them. IE: good-morning => ohayo gozaimasu, or vice-versa.
- There is a problem with commas and the program usually does not work
- with them. This should be corrected in future versions.
-
- For those people desparate to register:
- I can be bribed very easily. Sending me comments, bugs, gripes, new
- dictionaries, or even money, :-) will put you on a list of people
- who help create the program. When a new version comes out you will
- be notified and your name will be printed in a list of helpers. I
- will need an e-mail, or snail mail address to do this. IF I ever do
- go to shareware, I might automatically register you. (Haven't made
- up my mind on that point yet.)
-
- This program is free to all, so please distribute like crazy and
- make new dictionaries!!!! Again send all comments, etc to:
