  8. The Eudora Light Windows User Manual is provided 'as is' from its developer, QUALCOMM Incorporated.  AT&T WorldNet Services notes are included in brackets ([ ]).

As you read the manual, keep in mind that it describes a freeware version of Eudora for Windows that is distributed electronically by its developer.  The manual describes how to access the software through the Internet, install it on your computer, and communicate directly with the developer if you have a problem or an idea on how it can be improved.

  12. AT&T WorldNet Services installs Eudora Light for you automatically.  After you register with the service, you are not required to perform any additional installation or configuration procedures before using the software.

  21. This is the freeware version of Eudora for Windows. There is also a
  22. commercial version of Eudora called Eudora Pro (Version 2.0 and
  23. above).  If you would like information about the commercial version, a
  24. brief description is provided in the Help menu of this freeware.  Select
  25. About Eudora Pro to display this dialog. You can also subscribe to
  26. the QUALCOMM Enterprise Software Technologies (QUEST) mailing list by
  27. selecting QUEST News from the Help menu.  This list will provide
  28. subscribers with occasional information about Eudora, Eudora Pro,
  29. and other QUEST products.

  31. The latest version of Eudora Light can be found on ftp.qualcomm.com, in the
  32. directory quest/windows/eudora/1.5.  The Windows freeware user manual 
  33. can also be found on ftp.qualcomm.com, in the directory 
  34. quest/windows/eudora/documentation.  The user manual is formatted in 
  35. Word for Windows version 2.0 format.

  37. Both the freeware and its documentation can also be retrieved via e-mail
  38. using QUALCOMM's list server. To obtain the freeware, send a message to
  39. majordomo@qualcomm.com with the body text as follows:

  62. <H3>Minimum Requirements</H3>
  63. Eudora Light requires the following:
  64. <ul>
  65. <li>IBM PC compatible machine
  66. <li>MS Windows Version 3.1
  67. <li>WinSock v1.1 compliant TCP/IP stack
  68. <li>Microsoft (or compatible) mouse (highly recommended)
  69. <li>At least 750KB of free disk space (more depending on mailbox sizes)

  72. <H3>TCP/IP Services</H3>
  73. Eudora makes use of several different TCP/IP services, and has default port
  74. numbers for these services.  Most sites put these services on the default
  75. ports, but some may not.  Contact your site network administrator to make
  76. sure that the following services listed below are indeed on the default
  77. port numbers.  If they aren't, you'll have to make some changes to some
  78. configuration file(s) in your TCP/IP package (usually to a SERVICES file).
  79. <p>
  80. Below are a list of the services which Eudora uses, and what they might
  81. look like in a typical services file.  The names of these services must be
  82. exactly as named here (e.g., the entry for the POP3 service must be "pop3"
  83. and not "pop-3").  Make sure that you make any changes necessary for your
  84. TCP/IP package to specify the location of the SERVICES file.

  89. To receive mail:

  92. To use Ph (if your site has a Ph server):
  93.         csnet-ns  105/tcp

  95. To use Finger (if your site supports finger):

  98. To use the Change Password... function in Eudora, your site must have a
  99. password changing server installed.  See the directory
  100. quest/unix/servers/password on ftp.qualcomm.com for examples of 
  101. password changing servers:         epass   106/tcp

  103. There are also entries in the [Settings] section of the EUDORA.INI
  104. file for default port numbers of services.  These are provided for setups
  105. in which the SERVICES file cannot be modified.  Do not use these entries
  106. unless the services are not on default port numbers and you cannot modify
  107. them in your TCP/IP package.  Here are sample INI entries:

  121. file and user manual for the answer.  If your question is still unanswered,
  122. you can subscribe to a mailing list called windows-eudora-forum that has 
  123. been
  124. established to allow Eudora users to communicate with one another, answer
  125. questions, and exchange ideas about Eudora.

  127. To subscribe to this list, use the Eudora Forum... menu item under the
  128. Special menu.  You may also unsubscribe from the mailing list this way.

  130. Once you are subscribed, you can send a message to all other subscribers on
  131. the list by addressing it to:

  135. Participation in this list is purely voluntary. Since it is an
  136. "unmoderated" mailing list, any message sent to

  140. other subscribers.
  141. <H3>Bug Reports</H3>
  142.  
  143. If you experience something you think might be a bug in Eudora, please
  144. report it by sending a message to pc-eudora-bugs@qualcomm.com.  Describe 
  145. what
  146. you did, what happened, what version of Eudora you have, any error 
  147. messages
  148. Eudora gave (the numbers in ()'s are especially important), what kind of
  149. computer you have, what operating system you're using, and anything else 
  150. you
  151. think might be relevant.
  152. <p>
  153. You will receive an automated response indicating that your bug report has
  154. been received and forwarded to our engineering staff.  <b>Unless additional
  155. information is needed, you will not receive a direct response.</b>
  156. <p>
  157. There's an application called Dr. Watson in your Windows directory
  158. (DRWATSON.EXE) that will write some important debugging information to 
  159. a
  160. log file (DRWATSON.LOG, also in the Windows directory) and also prompt 
  161. you
  162. to jot down a few words about what you were doing whenever a crash occurs.
  163. This information is extremely helpful for tracking down PC problems.  It is
  164. recommended that you run Dr. Watson whenever you're running Windows.  
  165. That
  166. way, if you should have a GPF when using Eudora, you can include the Dr.
  167. Watson log file with your bug report (Win32 users, be sure to send a Win16
  168. Dr. Watson log, not a Win32 one).
  169. <p>
  170. The entries are appended to the end of the log file, so it can grow very
  171. large.  Periodically delete the file to keep its size to a minimum. When you
  172. include a log file as part of a bug report, <b>PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE</b>, 
  173. edit the log file so that only the pertinent part(s) are included.
  174. <p>
  175. <H3>Requests For Features</H3>

  177. From time to time, everyone comes up with an idea for something they'd 
  178. like
  179. their software to do differently.  This is true of all applications, no less
  180. Eudora.  If you come across an idea that you think might make a nice
  181. enhancement to Eudora, your input is always welcome.  Please send any
  182. suggestions or requests for new features to eudora-suggest@qualcomm.com.

  208. Postcards that have something to do with where you live are an especially
  209. good choice, as I like to see all the interesting places that Eudora is
  210. being used.  Humorous or unusual postcards are a favorite of mine, and you
  211. never know when I may decide that someone's postcard was interesting 
  212. enough to make them a tester for the commercial version of Eudora.
