- README FILE FOR OS/2 2.0 PREINSTALLED SYSTEMS
- _____________________________________________
-
- August 1992
-
- This file contains additional information about
- using the Utility Diskettes. The information
- became available after the publications were
- printed.
-
- You can use the Utility Diskettes to:
-
- o Start OS/2* 2.0 from diskettes
-
- o Back up and restore your preinstalled system
-
- o Check the hard disk for errors or problems
-
- o Format a diskette or the hard disk
-
-
- USING BACKUP AND RESTORE
-
- The BACKUP and RESTORE files on Utility Diskette 3
- are different from the BACKUP and RESTORE files on
- the hard disk. The files on Utility Diskette 3
- provide additional capabilities that allow you to
- back up and restore your entire hard disk.
-
- Do not use the BACKUP and RESTORE files on the
- hard disk to back up and restore your preinstalled
- system. The files on the hard disk do not allow
- you to back up and restore the entire preinstalled
- system.
-
-
- BACKING UP YOUR PREINSTALLED SYSTEM
-
- Use the BACKUP file on Utility Diskette 3 to back
- up your preinstalled system. BACKUP copies the
- files from the hard disk to diskettes. A complete
- backup of your preinstalled system requires about
- 30 blank, high-density (2MB) diskettes.
-
- Make backup diskettes of your preinstalled system
- as it was originally shipped. Backup diskettes
- allow you to restore your system, if the hard disk
- is ever damaged.
-
- Follow the backup procedure in the "Using the
- Welcome Folder" book provided with your system.
-
-
- RESTORING YOUR SYSTEM
-
- Use the RESTORE file on Utility Diskette 3 to
- restore your system. RESTORE copies files from
- the backup diskettes to your hard disk.
-
- If you ever need to restore the backup diskettes
- to your hard disk, make sure you know if your hard
- disk has a formatted partition. If the hard disk
- (drive C) has a formatted partition, follow the
- restore procedure in "Using the Welcome Folder."
-
- If the hard disk does not have a formatted
- partition, create a partition and format the
- partition before proceeding with the restore
- procedure in "Using the Welcome Folder." Use
- FDISK to create a partition and FORMAT to format
- the partition. The FDISK and FORMAT command files
- are on Utility Diskette 3.
