- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Backing Up a Preinstalled System ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Preinstalled systems come with the OS/2 operating system, utility programs, and
- other special features already installed. To make Backup Diskettes of the OS/2
- files, programs, and device drivers installed in your system, use the BACKUP
- file on Utility Diskette 3.
-
- The BACKUP file on Utility Diskette 3 is different from the BACKUP file on your
- hard disk. The file on the Utility Diskette provides additional capabilities
- that allow you to back up the entire system.
-
- Do not use the BACKUP file on the hard disk to back up your preinstalled
- system. The file on the hard disk does not allow you to back up the entire
- preinstalled system.
-
- To create Utility Diskettes:
-
- 1. Select Welcome.
- 2. Select Configuration Tools.
- 3. Select Create Utility Diskettes.
-
- To back up your system:
-
- 1. Insert Utility Diskette 1 into drive A. Press and hold Ctrl+Alt, then
- press Del to restart the system.
- 2. When the IBM Logo screen appears, remove Utility Diskette 1 from drive A.
- 3. Insert Utility Diskette 2 into drive A, then press Enter.
- 4. When the command prompt appears, remove Utility Diskette 2 from drive A.

- A complete backup of your preinstalled system requires about 30 blank,
- high-density (2MB) diskettes.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Restoring a Preinstalled System ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Use the RESTORE file on Utility Diskette 3 to restore your Backup Diskettes of
- the preinstalled OS/2 operating system, utility programs, and special features.
- RESTORE copies files from the Backup Diskettes to your hard disk.
-
- The RESTORE file on Utility Diskette 3 is different from the RESTORE file on
- your hard disk. The file on the Utility Diskette provides additional
- capabilities that allow you to restore the entire system.
-
- Do not use the RESTORE file on the hard disk to restore your preinstalled
- system. The file on the hard disk does not allow you to restore the entire
- preinstalled system.
-
- To create Utility Diskettes:
-
- 1. Select Welcome.
- 2. Select Configuration Tools.
- 3. Select Create Utility Diskettes.
-
- To restore your system:

-
- RESTORE A: C:\*.* /S
- and press Enter.
-
- Note: Before restoring Backup Diskettes, make sure you know if your hard disk
- has a formatted partition. If the hard disk (drive C) has a formatted
- partition, proceed with the restore procedure.
-
- If the hard disk does not have a formatted partition, create a partition and
- format the partition before proceeding with the restore procedure. Use FDISK
- to create a partition and FORMAT to format the partition. The FDISK and FORMAT
