- Packet monitor program
-
- This program is designed to monitor packet activity under the BPQ Node
- software and Desqview.
-
- There are two files supplied;
-
- MONITOR.EXE The program.
- MONITOR.NEW A list of updates.
- MONITOR.DOC This file.
-
- The program requires some command line parameters; the COM's port number
- and the port number (which port(s) to monitor).
-
- For example;
-
- MH -p 3 255

- | \
- | COM 03:
- \
- MCOM ON (optional)
-
- The '-p' parameter is used to tell the program to monitor all packets (MCOM
- ON) not just information packets. If the node can hear a lot of traffic, this
- can cause corruption as the program will not be able to remove the data from
- its 'TNC' (virtual) fast enough. To cure this, omit the '-p' and the program
- will only monitor information frames (there may still be some corruption if
- its very busy!).
-
- The COM port number is the virtual BPQ COM port you allocate to this program.
-
- The port number is the decimal representation of the binary number sent to the
- BPQ code to tell it which ports to monitor. To monitor a port the ports bit
- must be set. So to monitor port 1 only then type in a 1, port 2 a 2, port 3 a
- 4 and port 8 an 8. To monitor all ports type in 255 (sets all bits) and for
- any other combination, the decimal number that sets the required bits.
-
- To end the program use the 'Esc' key THIS WILL TAKE A FEW SECONDS (in DESQview
- you may have to try twice). If you just close the DESQview window the BPQ node
- will still think the program there and will still try to send the monitored
- packets to the program.
-
- I hope that all that was not too garbled! If you have any problems, contact
