ocr: Right Funeral director Commentary The automatic SWitchboard was invented by Armon B. Strowger, a Kansas City (U.S.) funeral director who had a long-standing feud with local telephone operators. The dispute escalated to the point that the operators would retallate by intentionally routing his customers calls to other funeral girectors instead. When Strowger found out, he hit the roof, and took revenge by devising a means of automating the telephone exchange in order to eliminate the operators. The year was 1889.
