  4. <dd>In the northern part of the South American continent, where Venezuela,
  5. Brazil and Guyana come together, there are mountains enveloped in clouds
  6. and fog all year-round that create an eerie scenery.  There are vertical
  7. cliffs 1,000 meters high with weird-shaped crags on their summits, yawning
  8. cracks hundreds of meters deep, and reddish-black rivers flowing over rough
  9. exposed bedrock.  The earth's crust here forms what is called the Roraima
  10. Shield.  Created two billion years ago, it is the oldest geological
  11. formation in the world.

  13. <dd>On the summit of Table Mountain, there are many unique plants and animals
  14. that have evolved independently.  The high cliffs have prevented
  15. intercourse with other mountains and the surrounding forests and savanna.
  16. The rain that falls on the table-shaped mountain quickly emerges from the
  17. surrounding cliffs to form hundreds, perhaps thousands, of waterfalls.
  18. Among them is the highest waterfall in the world, Angel Falls, 979 meters
  19. high.
