- BACKUP AND RECOVERY
-
- Commands that you can use to prepare for future problems (by backing up
- the files on your hard disk to diskette), see if there are problems on your
- disks, and perform simple recovery from those problems. Even when these
- can't recover, separately purchased programs can often correct the problem.
-
- DOS COMMAND WHAT IT DOES
-
- BACKUP makes a copy of precious files on your hard
- disk on diskettes or another hard disk.
- CHKDSK reads some of the directory information on a
- disk to see if it looks OK. Can also recover
- limited amounts of lost data. Can provide an
- early warning of pending disk problems.
- RECOVER reads a file, and tries to save the parts of
- it that are still good.
- RESTORE reads those precious copies of your files from
- the disks BACKUP wrote.
- REPLACE* makes a copy of precious files on another disk,
- but any program can read them, not just RESTORE.
