- EXTERNAL COMMAND

- A DOS command that is "separate from" the COMMAND.COM program and processed by
- executing a separate program rather than an internal subroutine. An EXTERNAL
- COMMAND is contrasted with an INTERNAL COMMAND. Some external commands are
- executed by programs that you buy separately, like LOTUS. One external command
- with a confusing name is COMMAND, which tells the computer to execute the
- COMMAND.COM program (see the COMMAND.COM definition for more information).
