- CODE PAGE [new DOS 3.3]
-
- A code page is a table used to translate a number in computer memory into a
- character (letter, number, or special symbol) displayed on the screen or
- printed on paper. Each key on the keyboard must also be translated into a
- number in computer memory so that it can later be displayed by using a code
- page. A default code page is "built in" to the computer and each peripheral.
-
- Since the set of characters displayed, printed, or marked on the keys of a
- keyboard may be slightly different in different countries, the code pages can
- be changed by the CHCP, KEYB, and MODE commands. The ASCII subtopics (see the
- ASCII definition) can be used to display the translation for the code page in
- use by the monitor, but the "Meanings" column will only be correct for all
- characters when the default code page (437) is being used.
