- The Multi-Edit Demo is now shipped in compressed form. The program
- INSTALL.EXE will automatically perform the extractions and install
- Multi-Edit onto your disk for you.
-
- The Multi-Edit Demo will NOT run from a 360k or 720k floppy. DEMO will
- fit on a 1.2m or larger floppy with no problem.
-
-
- ABOUT THE DEMO:
- Unlike other "demo" disks you might have received, this
- Multi-Edit demo is truly a FULLY FUNCTIONAL copy of the
- editor! ANY SIZE FILE may be loaded, edited and saved.
-
- The differences between the demo and the full product are:
- 1. The introductory screens, which may not be bypassed.
-
- 2. The on-line help and user's guide is more limited, and
- there is no macro language reference manual.
-
- 3. The following advanced features are not included: Network
- Support, Macro Debugger, Print formatter, Spell checker and
- Communications Module.
-
- 4. Configuration changes last only for the current session and
- may not be saved.
-
- 5. Technical support and maintenance updates are not included
-
- 6. The DEMO takes much longer to load, and uses more memory
- than the regular Multi-Edit.
-
- 7. The macro compiler and macro source is not included.

-
- EVOLVE DEMO
- The Demo now contains a fully functional demo of the add-on
- product EVOLVE. This is a super-charged programming
- environment for Xbase languages Clipper, Dbase, Dbase for
- Windows, FoxPro and Arago. You'll notice upon startup of
- Multi-Edit that you are prompted for one of 4 function keys.
- Choose the one for Evolve to enable the Evolve Demo!
-
- BRIEF AND WORDSTAR KEYSTROKE EMULATION:
- The Demo now includes Brief and Wordstar keystroke emulation
- capability. To enable, use one of the following command lines:
-
- ME /R BRIEF
- ME /R WORDSTAR
-
- Note: When you purchase Multi-Edit, the emulation can be saved
- permanently, so you don't have to use one of the above command
- lines.
-
- A NOTE ON MOUSE SUPPORT:
- Please check out our mouse support. It is fully explained in
- the online help. Some examples of what you can do with your
- mouse:
- Click anywhere on the top two lines of the screen to
- pop up the main menu.
-
- Drag the corner of a window to resize it, or drag the
- top of the window to move it entirely.
-
- Mark blocks of text.
-

-
- Click on the scroll bar to easily move through a file.

- ** COMMON PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS **
-
- 1. You go into Multi-edit and your keyboard locks up OR your key
- repeat seems to be malfunctioning. You should try the
- following command line switches:
-
- Some special TSR's, and older PC clones, will not work if
- Multi-Edit trys to use the enhanced keyboard functions. If you
- experience keyboard problems, try the /EN switch.
-
- /EN = Don't try to use enhanced keyboard
-
- Some special ANSI.SYS replacements, and some unusual PC clones,
- have major problem when attempting to alter the keyboard repeat
- speed. If you experience keyboard problems, try the /KN switch
- (/KY is the default).
-
- /KN = Don't change key speed, /KY = Change key speed
-
- 2. If you are using EMS/XMS, and have already tried the command
- line switches listed above, and Multi-edit is still acting
- strange, it's probably due to a conflict between Multi-edit and
- your EMS/XMS driver. Try starting Multi-Edit with the /EMSOFF
- command line switch.
-
-
- MULTI-EDIT AND OS/2
-
- There is a problem with Multi-Edit and IBM OS/2 version 2.0 ("GA")
- with the "Service Pack", otherwise known as the IBM OS/2 Base Operating
- System version 2.00.1 at CSD Level XRX6055 (you can find your current
- CSD level by typing "SYSLEVEL" at the prompt in any OS/2 or DOS
- character-mode session). If you are using this version, you will not be
- able to load a file whose fully-qualified name is longer than 31
- characters. This is a bug in OS/2's emulation of DOS's INT21/4E
- ("FindFirst") call. The problem has been acknowledged and corrected by
- IBM. We recommend that you check with your IBM Representative for
- further information on updating.
